My guess is because they are kinda off topic for this forum. Yes, they do show pix of a HPDE event and HT participants, but they aren't really competition discussions. Just a guess though.

Bummer......I was just about to photochop that picture of Scott with the trophy ladies .

 

Doh... granted there have been a lot of things worthy of locking of recent but... I'm at a loss for this one. They're HPDE photos that a ton of participants on this board attended, and many involve photos of the new marque racing series spawned by the participants on this board. Not EXACTLY competition but c'mon now, it's in the spirit of things.

 

I locked 'em 'cause I'm jealous! j/k...kinda weird but oh well...

No gentlemen (and ladies) Im having a good day.

I am locking them down. I know its "off season" but all the pic posts I feel are out of place. In the other forums, post of pics are not allowed and moved to the Appearence forum, instead of moving them, I felt it better to lock them. I know the Comp forum is "different" but I dont want to have newbies come in there and see that and think its ok.. Am I wrong?

Thats why I locked them, instead of moving them.

I'd rather get rid of the pics and keep the threads open. There were some good threads there.

Dont worry guys, I talked to Chris and what I am going to do tomorrow is make a new post that contains links to all photoalbums that pertain to this past weekends events. That way it can all be condensed and the discussion can stay in the thread. Stay tuned, I will post it up after I fail my test tomorrow at noon

I have to say locking them is stupid. Sorry Chris, we agree on mostly everything, but the only possible effect that posting those pics will have is to get more people out to the track once they see the Viper GTS-Rs and beautiful Asian women and the camraderie between all the participants. I know after I saw a few photo albums of VIR and Summit Pt, I said "I gotta get out there", and signed up. In the ITR forum, no one locks pictures of members' cars. Why? It's still ITR-related. And pictures of an event that was hyped for months in advance on this board are definitely on-topic and should stay for as long as people are interested. And if you're going to lock them, at least post the final response and tell us why it's being locked, so we don't think it's some renegade Puritan moderator.

 

Well, it's not like they're pics of "hey, check out my HIDs....you can't really tell the how bright they are in the photo, but here are 50 different hi-rez shots anyway" Or "just washed my car - here's 100 photos of it" as proof!

We're talking HPDE photos. We post them here because IMO this is the right place for them. When I look at them, I am looking at body roll, line, etc. Yeah, pretty pics are nice, but there's a lot of technical info in the pics too.

And if you want to sell the "competition" theme to others, pictures of competitions help, right? If I'm a newbie who thinks HIDs are perf mods, then when I come here and see people w/numbers on their cars, on track, sporting roll bars, hitting apexes, spinning out.....I might just think, "huh, maybe this track thing is cool - might look into it some more." Am I way off here? I know this forum helped to get me to my first track event.

Sure, you can ban pics completely I guess, but if they are on topic, then why? Just because it's a different type of media? Are you going to ban video clips being posted here too? If Starns wants to post "my 1:47 lap at CMP", you bet your VTEC I want to see it. I want to note the line, the sounds, measurement device, etc!

No, drifting doesn't qualify - burnouts don't qualify. Here, we talk autox, track & drag. These are legit, despite their medium, IMO....and I'm betting I speak for a majority here.

Larry....who reads the competition forum for the posts, not just the pictures.

Well the bandwidth ***** is the images... and just locking the threads without removing the images doesnt aleviate this problem, since they can still be viewed (even if they are hosted elsewhere)

Bandwidth has nothing to do with it. The images are not getting served from h-t. All h-t does is include a reference to some other site.
