Default Swaping tranny cases, can I make a short geared tranny from a YS1 LS?

I'm having a hell of a time tracking down a short geared cable b-series tranny. Specifically I'm looking for a YS1 with or without LSD. I have two YS1 LS trannys in my garage and was told that most of the internals are interchangeable with later hydro trannys. Is is possible for me to just buy a B16 or GSR tranny and swap the cases? I can find tons of those trannys from local sources. There's lots of demand for short geared cable trannys in town, but no supply. If it's possible to do this, I could make myself a decent tranny and use the leftover parts to build a hydro LS tranny for the B18B guys if they need one.

Any thoughts on this? I couldn't find much when I searched other than people trying to find cases for their cracked/stripped trannys.
