What's with all the gauges?
Hopefully someone out there can help me to understand this. I bought an A-pillar with a 3 gauges on it (Oil Pressure, A/F Ratio and Battery voltage) for my '88 CRX Si. I was browsing around trying to figure out how to hook them up. For some reason I keep coming across things like this:

Is there really any point to have gauges on the complete other side of the dash where they aren't convinient to read? Not trying to knock on anyone I just wanna know the reasons behind it (if any).

that gauge is pretty retarded, not only cant you see it from the driver seat its looks like crap, what did they cut a hole in the dash with a rusty pocketknife? better yet have you ever seen the gauges in the glove compartment, those are real useful

Right side gauges might be useful if you are having someone in the passenger seat take notes or change something based on the readings... but I would prefer just to remove the gauges after that.

someone needs to find pics of that orange caviler from a car show i saw in a mag.
they had like 17 guages or something like that. i used to joke about it, and have switches and ****, so starting my car would be like prepping a plane for take off

i think guages are kinda ricey, but if ur boosted guages are a must. also they must have good placement such as what ur doing the a pillar. i will def have gauges next year

Not when they serve a purpose.
An oil pressure gauge is a must, specially when you are gonna be doing engine work on an engine going into that car.
And I also like coolant temp gauges, because the stock gauge will stay at the same point, when the temp is either 130f or 220f, it always stays the same. And when you try to do things to help your engine temp stay down, an aftermarket gauge is a must.

This is a pic of the gauge pillar that I bought. Seems funtional to me.

I got mine for $125 and it's got the A/F Ratio Gauge, Oil Pressure Gauge and voltage.

That is the worst install I have ever seen. I use to have 4 gauges in mine, 2 on the pillar and 2 in the stock radio location, but it just seemed like overkill IMO. I sold them all (they were all AC Autotech.) I am going to replace the 2 on the pillar with voltage and something else

Agreed, guages can be of great use to better see whats going on with your engine. They can help prevent costly rebuils also.

yeah the gauges are useful to the most important PASSENGER....how about unless u have boost all u need is gas, RPM, Speedo, and temp
well actually the gauge is quite functional if u look at the way the gauge is placed in the dash its turned clockwise about 1/4 and when ur driving all u shoud see is the needle pointing straight out if not u know something isnt right. Ive sen them used mostly in autocross
Ive got an hourmeter just to see how long the b18 I just put in is actually going to last, also a oil pressure guage and a better temperature guage, but that guage is pretty wierd if they would install it correctly instead of screwing up the dash it might be a little better. but only a little!
i have a three pillar pod with autometer gauges in my crx

pretty easy to hook up.
a/f hooked up to wire on the o2 sensor.
oil presure just hooks up to sender
and volt meter hooks up to power & ign
