Welding reinforcement plates on the subframe
I'm about to weld some reinforcement plates on the mounting point of my car's subframes; front and rear. I want to know what kind of precaution I should take before starting to weld. I know I should disconnect the battery, and I was also told to unhook the ecu. Is there anything else I should do?
Also what kind of mig wire should I use?

take out the carpet or an interior/exterior peices where you are welding.. heat will find it and melt it!
Also, this is OT form your question.. but this is how I corrected a mistake from the past: The best way to weld reinforcements plates is to do it like Honda would have done it (well, not exactly because they do some sort of 'pinch' welding?). On my crx i drill 1/4" holes in all the metal that i slap onto my unibody (like a cheeze slice). that way you weld the whole plate to the body, not just the outside edges. Try to overlap stuff as much as possible, butt welding will not cut it.

Sorry didnt know this was the thread. The pinch weld you're calling about are you refering to rosette welds? And what do you mean overlap stuff the welds? or the plate?
Thanks.
Thanks.
he is talking about spot welds done by the robots at honda (maybe its called rosette, i am unsure). they basically can weld in the middle of any piece of metal, not just the out side edges. what he is talking about is say your adding a 4x4" piece of steel. drill some holes in the middle and after you weld all the edges of the 4x4, weld the hole you just cut. that would put a weld in the center of the plate.
basically, spot welding without a spot welder.
