Default oil light blinking

Hey guys, I just purchased a new used lude, ive had it for about 4 days now, im still newbish to driving a stick so ive been stalling here and there... anyways today I was driving the car, i shifted a bit ruff from 1st to 2nd and the oil light started to blink... i instantly turned off the car, waiting a few minutes and then turned the car back on... i didnt come back on and I didnt think about it... then about an hour later I was on a hill and peeled out a bit and it turned back on. I got home checked the oil level, it was a bit low so i put some new oil in... now from what ive been reading, the oil light can sometimes indicate a motor about to blow... the only cause of concern i have was that I was on the highway and I mis-shifted from 5 to 2nd... I almost didnt it again yesterday... oy... anyways what do you guys think?

edit: the more reading I do the more apparently misshifting of that magnitude happens to quite a bit of people heh... but just to note, after i misshifted I didnt feel the car idle any differently or anything at alll...

your going to need a new engine soon, the way your driving and maintaining it. Never really heard of someone running the car low enough on oil to get the oilpress light and money-shift at the same time. Either way, I just dont want to be the guy who owns the car after you.

Give him a break. He said he's still learning to drive a manual. How high did the RPMs go when you down shifted from 5th to 2nd?

at 60mph, 2nd gear should be deep into vtec country, close to redline. awfully close to blowing it...

ideal, you have a prelude now, start learning to love checking your oil -- you'll be doing that a lot.

I have always taken really good care of all the cars ive driven, im a maintence guy, i dont destory my cars

the rpms jumped pretty high... id say i was going in range betwen 65/72 when it happened, the rpms hit red line, but to tell you the truth I dont remember how high they jumped, but i dont think it over-reved tooo much, the second it happened i stuck the car back into neutral.

Tsk tsk. No offense, but what were you doing peeling out if you're still learning how to drive manual? Not to mention, what country is it that you were cruising around on the highway in 5th? This isn't Top Gear.
Now, with that said...
Prelude's are rather sensitive to that kind of treatment.. as are all cars, not to mention that prelude's have a tendency to burn oil (H22's), and you need to keep a close eye on this. Just take it easy and keep a close eye on the oil levels.

heh, yeah i agree, should i ever drive the car like that no, but since im new to it, i thought, well there is no one here on the road, lets see what this feels like if i ever need to speed up quickly in emergency or even to pass someone, as for the hill peeling out, well i was having trouble getting the car into 1st, so i just had to give it more gas before the 3 cars behind started to have a **** fit, so i peeled out a bit

I turned it off and turned it on and it went away i drove it around and it was fine again... what do you guys think?

Sudden stalling of the car will do that.. all I can tell you for sure is that once you get a better grasp of driving manual.. the problem will go away...

Thanks, Im starting to get alot better, the car is also lowered so i think im gonna do an oil change tonight and check the oil pan and see if there are any major dents that could be causing problems with oil pick up... but im really hoping its just noobie stick driving... althought ive stalled the car before plenty of times without that happening... oy

What the hell are you talking about? What gear do you use driving on the highway at 70 MPH?

Hey man, don't feel to bad about it. I did the same thing too. I just bought a 1995 honda prelude vtec a while ago and I stalled so much my neck started to hurt. haha jk. Well yeah the check engine light pops out when your coming near to stalling. I know its hurting the engine but hey your learning. Keep up the good work.

well get used to it. this place is full of noob ricers who dont know **** about cars and run there mouths all the time. ill probably get banned for saying the truth!!

anyways.. your oil light comes on when you stall your car. the reason your oil light comes on is YOU WERE LOW ON OIL, THEN WHEN YOU ACCELERATE OUR TURN LEFT, ALL YOUR OIL SHIFTS AND YOUR PICKUP GETS DRY. check your oil often. and dont be power shifting if your new just take it easy.

hmm......if the oil pump is going out....will the oil light come on, or lbink? Or would it do a combination along with the engine light coming on?.....

Would hate for him to keep refilling on oil and have it lock up......

70mph, how do you know he was going 70 or 80 or 90 or even just 65? That's not legal in NY, 5th gear isn't the point, the point is if your learning you shouldn't be speeding.. and 70 is high (for NY at least)... I'm not flaming, if it sounds like that.. I apologize, but stalling out will make the light turn on and that's what I said BEFORE someone who claims i'm a newb said so. Hmm, ironic.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and figured if he was doing well above the legal speed limit he would have been braging like a cocky *******. Since he just said "driving on the highway" I figured he ment just that . . .driving at a reasonable speed on the highway. 70 MPH on the highway in Atlanta will get you run off the road, and the legal limit is 55.

BTW he lives in CA. Legal speed limit on the freeway is 65.
