Need more help. FREE SHIRT
If your answer leads to the running of my car I'll give you a free i :broken heart: JDM shirt ( i hate jdm basically) cool shirt IMO.
Anyways. b16a swap in 89 si crx had code 5. Fixed that this morning and took it for a drive. It ran fine then all the sudden it started to misfire and would rev really really bad, idling at 1200 ish. Before it idled fine at 750. OK. We checked to see if all 4 plugs are firing on this diagnostic machine my dad has and they all were firing a steady pattern. I called up User Chad and he said maybe fuel filter. WRONG. Replaced it with a new one I had up here and it still runs like teh suck. I used the Si Harness and all wiring seems correct. However today I found a two wire plug near the alternator (it comes out near fan switch and oil press are on back of block) that leads to nowhere, and I can't find a home for it. What is it? Why is my engine running like ****?
No CEL.
Spark on all 4.
In time, slightly advanced due to rough idle.
When you throttle it it doesnt want to rev at all, taking its time until it gets to 5200ish and then acts like there is a rev limiter. HRMM!
Cmon, Free shirt for j00!!!!

I really want that shirt. lol
hook up a fuel pressure guage and see if your getting the correct fuel pressure, maybe your pump is taking a ****. (known to happen in swaped cars)

Check the TPS sensor and it's wiring? I had a really bad misfire/hesitation problem and it turned out to be a loose/broken ground wire on the TPS. It didn't throw a code, but it ran like complete crap.

where is the tps grounded too? which wire was it on the tps
<has bad hesitation, no code and running like crap (idles fine) but when given gas it falls on its face
sorry dont mean to hijack the thread

Mine is just grounded to the throttle body.. I don't think that's right though
I think it's supposed to go back into the harness and run to pin C7 on obd0 setups.. according to my helms.. Maybe that's why I still have a little jerkiness when i let completely off the throttle and come back onto it.
oh, and its the green/white wire.
edit: and when mine was ungrounded.. it basically was misfiring a lot at idle too

Does your tach. act up when it happens? Double check the wires connected to the ignitor in the dist. If they are not tight(where you cant wiggle the female spade connector side to side)... may not be your problem but have come across at least a dozzen of so cars like that.
Are you using an OEM ignitor and coil? Please dont ever use aftermarket replacements like Napa or checkers...

Check your map sensor.. sounds crazy, but try to swap it out with one that works. Also, take a look inside ur dizzy. Im assuming you did your basic tune up, w/ plugs and all... In addition to this, i would recommend that you change out your coil. these dizzys are pretty much crap, and they brake pretty easily- just keep that in mind. I got money on the map, dizzy, or the tps like the other guy said.

How did you wire your O2 sensors?
It is quite common to wire them backwards which causes
all kinds of drive-ability problems..
See the FAQ section at the top of this forum for more details..
