Default Header Rattle, Confused...

So I just picked up a '99 GSR and it has what sounds like the "header rattle" from what I've been able to pull up from searching. Happens right around 3k and quiets down right at 4k. However, I thought only the 94-95s suffered from the header rattle or do some of the newer ones rattle too? Should I tell my exhaust shop to cut and weld my a-pipe?

I already had an exhaust shop look at it and I'm 100% sure it's coming from inside the engine. I already had an exhaust shop look at it and they don't think it's the catalytic heatshield. When they popped the hood, the sound changed considerably and it was louder, making me think it was coming from the heatshield or header. Is the inner pipe in my a-pipe loose?

Not the headgasket, no smoke. I took off my header's heatshield and the rattle was still there so now I'm convinced that it's the A-pipe. I'm just gonna find a spare one.

My friends GS-R also had the infamous "header rattle" a while ago. The problem is that a pipe inside of the A-Pipe is loose and was vibrating like crazy whenever you rev the engine to around say, 3,000RPM. All he did was he took the car to the local muffler shop and welded the "spot" where the pipe was loose. After the weld, the vibration and the buzzing sound was gone and never came back. I think the welding was about $15. So save yourself a trouble and money, and try welding the header (A-pipe) first.

that's the culprit... a-pipe.. .the thing is, i forgot who has gotten it welded before.. but he said it was only a temp. fix.. it came back after 2 years i think (if that long)... so i guess $15 for 2 years is not bad at all.

Well it was the header, I got a stock GSR header from a friend and replaced the bottom part and sure enough the bottom part of my bad header on the inside the pipe was loose and off to one side, now, no more rattle!
