Default INspection

hey guys if i clear my check engine light codes and it doesnt come back on for a few hours or so, wouldnt i still be able to pass inspection b/c there are no codes displayed on the computer right ?

No. Having the light on (or off) has no bearing on if your car passes or fails the state Vehicle Inspection proceedure. If it were, every motorhead from Boston to San Fransisco would have pulled out the bulb a long time ago.
Chance might have it that the reason for the CEL might not keep you from passing, but there's no way of telling without diagnosing the problem.
All the state cares about (ultimately) is whats' coming out the pipe and that the car's mechanically sound.

In NJ, if they see any lights lit on your dash you automatically fail.
