Anyone ever recharged an r12 AC system?
What is necessary? If I am filling the system with r12, well freeze 12, do I still need to vacuum the old refrigerant out first? Some mechanic was trying to get me to convert to r134 and I dont think it is necessary since the freeze 12 stuff is on the market.
Whats the procedure for recharging an r12 system.
Do I just get the AC guage, hoses and cans?
Thanks

well i wouldnt go back to r12 since its outdated you can reclaim your system and use the r134a which will work fine but you have to reclaim your system out ... its a 10,000 fine if you bleed it in the air which im not gunna tell but you have to get the oil out too so i suggest a reclaim .
an a/c system is more complicated than that, since freeze 12 is on the market, its kinda like a replacement for r12, but in all actuality, it will never be as cold as r12, thus the price difference also, almost 10.00 a can for freeze 12 or 134, r12 is about 50 dollars a pound.
you would still need to run a vacuum on the system to see if there are any potential leaks, and the vacuum also gets all the moisture and air out the system.
