Default Transmission Synchro issues

Hello all,
I wanted to ask fellow ITR owners if you have had any issues with the sychros going bad in your transmission. I have been repeatedly having 3rd and 5th gear synchro problems... and am wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

In my case, sooner or later either 3rd or 5th just start to grind... primarily only at higher RPM gear changes. The dealership has already had to crack open the tranny a few times to replace the sychros.

Thanks for sharing any of your experiences.

Howdy.

The list of people that have had some synchro issue in this forum is probably approaching about half of us.

Search for: Synchro
- Archived Content, Topic Titles, Integra Type-R forum

You'll get 20 results. Lots of good info.

Welp, my 5th was like that (~7k) after expo4 last year and I had been living with it, quite easily I might add, until expo5 when the grind moved down to about 4kish so any shift into 5th without revmatching will result in a grind above about 55mph.

Oddly it seems as though expo always seems to mark some sort of tranny "event" for me.

Did you get your synchros done under warranty? If so, consider yourself lucky already....

I had been meaning to post a poll to see how long people had been living with the 5th gear grind before replacing the synchro.

my 3rd and 5th went, I put in a new transmission. Soft synchros and high rpm shifts don't mix.

I did a search and I came up with tons of results. Would anyone mind giving a helping hand and linking me to a few of the really good threads. Many thanks for any help you can offer.

The only "synchro" problem I've ever had in any of my cars was the 323 GTX, second gear. Bought it that way with 54K miles form the second owner (who also got it with this ailement), and still drove it for another 130K miles.

I don't know about "you guys" with synchro problems. Either quit beating the tranny with partial miss shifts or the like, or just fix them when it happens!

Rob has some good info above though with that aftermarket synchro company, especially if they're more durable.

What kind of "help" do you seek?
Help in fixing it, or how to avoid the problem to begin with?

Also get yourself some Pennzoil Syncromesh, I love this stuff, it will make minor grinds disappear and the trans will shift better after a few days of driving.
