Default idle problem NOT IACV or FITV

well i have this idle problem where the rpm bounces up and down, but it only happens after the car is warmed up. i pulled the fitv off and it was screwed in all the way down.. after that i took off the IACV and blocked off the holes inside of it so it wouldn't run on the intake manifold anymore. i don't really know what else it could be.. any ideas?

also i'm throwing a code 17. i originally thought it wasn't because my speed cable wasn't plugged in (cuz it wasn't). so i clipped the cable into the tranny. my speedo guage works and it tells me my speed, but my car still flashes code 17.. i don't know this car has been a car from hell since the day i got it.

Hmm, how fast does the idle bounce up and down? Does it rev up and drop down really quick?

yeah it acts almost as if it was the iacv, but from when i had a iacv problem the idle problem would happen right when you start the car.. this one doesn't happen until it's fully warmed up..

but yea the rev is pretty consistant in speed of ideling up and then dropping down.

Try to recheck/clean all the hoses. Replace the pcv if you havent.

What happens when you are on the brakes vs. off?

brakes don't effect the idle when i'm stepping on or off them.. i'm getting a new blox manifold w/ a new iacv and that will eliminate the fitv.. i duno if that's gonna change anything tho.

Mine b16 would do the same thing once the car was warm, and it was the ftiv. But you said you already checked that.

The leak could be coming from the intake manifold where it bolts to the head.

if you would take off the throttle body, look at the bottom of the throttle body there is a thermostat like part where two coolent hoses go to.that the cap off (on the same side as the tps switch) there should be a white ceramic pices with a brass center use a pair of needle nose pliers and screw it down. and see if that works. write back a response

the problem was actually my idle screw.. i unplugged the iacv and adjusted the idle screw so the idle would be @800 then plugged it back in.

Good news man, glad you got it fixed. I had the SAME problem before I pulled the motor on my car. I replaced the manifold which eliminated the FITV valve and cleaned the IACV...however I haven't gotten the car up and running since then (hopefully this weekend). Care you explain exactly how you went about adjusting the idle? Did you let the car warm up first etc.?

my car did that, and it was the throttle pos. sensor. but, as soon as i fixed that, i threw a code 5, map sensor. this happened exactly the same time i fixed the tps, so i don't know what the deal is.

Mine was my PCV Valve. Try taking off the PCV hose and plugging up the hole on the IM. If the idle goes down then the PCV valve should be replaced. If not, have you checked the MAP sensor and TPS sensor? Are those things okay?

yeah my car was warm already.. i basically unplugged the plug in the iacv and then started the car. the idle went up extremely high so i adjusted the idle screw.. it's the flathead screw on the top of your throttle body. turing it clockwise should lower the idle and counter clockwise will raise it. i tightened the screw in and looked at the idle on my guage cluster. once i got it to around 800-900 i turned the car off, put the plug back in for the iacv, and reset the ecu. after all of that the idle problem went away. if you need pics i can take some but it's really easy and shouldn't call for any.

<----That one in my avatar did that when i had it, turns out it was my Tps "throttle position sensor. Try adjusting you'r idle screw first though, if not then change you'r tps, or another words buy another throttle body with one good on it.

i can tell you one thing that mite fix it but you will give a CEL, if you are MPFI un plug the IACV and the mess with the idle scrue till you get your idle down. thats what i have to do if i dont want my idle up and down cause my car will idle from 1K to 2K up and down, but i guess my IACV went bad but i dont get and CEL, who know
