Default Which motor would be better??

I'm about to embark on building a motor to drop in my ef hatch. It currently has b16 all the boltons with CTR cams. My goal basically is a high 13 sec car on street tires. I want reliability 1st and foremost though.

The 1st build was a LS/Vtec I was gonna put my pr3 pistons in it with arp rod bolts then slap my head on it useing the ge kit. I've been turned off by this idea because of reading about all the problems with ls/vtec from burning oil to reliability.

I've since been thinking about keeping my b16 has a spare motor and just building another complete LS/VTEC longblock.

My other option I was considering was buying another b16 putting p30's/ctr pistons in it and getting the head ported and polished.

How does the B16 w/P30's or CTR pistons and a worked head compare to a mildly built LS/Vtec. The b16 should be more reliable but could it run with the ls/vtec?

high compression motors will burn oil, its their nature.

if i had a light chassis, i'd go with the b16, if not, ls-v (if built properly) is a fun motor.

with your goals in mind I would definately go for the ls/vtec... The added displacement is a big atvantage and will leave you with more room to grow...

The car is a 90 si hatch with no PS but has AC so its probably pretty heavy.

Either motor put me in to the 13's??

If you have a budget, have a well-known engine builder build one for you.

More $$$=more power

Less$$$=less power

all right... forget the bs about unreliable ls/vtecs... the ones you hear about were probably built like ****... however, i wouldn't recommend using the pr3 pistons you have now... get the oversized pr3's from honda or something aftermarket that way they can be bored out to a perfect fit, if you do use the old pistons then you probably will have problems being that there may be a chance the cylinder wall will be slightly too big for the piston after honing.

that with the ctr cams in an ef should get you mid to high 13's (with a good tranny- unlike me )

my setup netted me a 103mph trap speed, which is good for a mid 13 second run.

or just say f*ck it all and buy a k swap.

for an ef i personally would go lsvtec because i build them myself so im not to worried about reliability but for you i think i would advise a built b16 to keep reliability either that or a stock jdm itr swap that would put you in the 13s bone stock and then would leave you room for upgrade

I just seen a R long block for 2300 the other day and i'll spend atleast that in a ls/vtec doing it the right way. How will the b16 tranny work with a typr r motor?
