I've had the same, but NEVER that bad.
Goof-off. $3 for a can. You might need to use about half or more, but it will totally work. I will say it's paint safe, but still, check for yellow paint on your paper towel.
It will also dissolve black rubber marks off your paint from the track (rubber tire chunks flying in the air), although you need to come back over with rubbing compound to finish that.

I use that stuff, and it works very well. Its also is paint safe. For heavy tar, I let it set for about 5 minutes before trying to remove it. It gets it off, doesnt damage the paint, and also leaves a nice shine (it contains alot of liquid wax).
I am sorry to hear about all the tar on your R. I hope she cleans up nicely.

I have used goof off before, but never on a car. IIRC correctly, goof off can remove your clearcoat and paint after a little while. I also thought it is known for discoloration. If I am wrong, please correct me.

I have used it a number of times on my CW car. I couldn't tell you if anything came off.
If it takes off the PY, you'll see it on your paper towel. If it does anything to the finish, take rubbing compound to it (or polish or whatever floats your boat)

You must wax the car after, all that stuff leaves the paint 'open'.

i detailed cars for a long time, brake cleaner and a bug and tar sponge will get that off the easiest and fastest, just do one side at a time and do NOT let it dry, make sure you wax the car afterwards as this will take any previous waxing off and leave the paint exposed, everyone will say it will strip the paint, but if it is an oem paint job on a new car like that you will be fine, you just have to watch out for older oxidized paint or cheap repaints. GL
I know how you feel. My neighboring streets abeing asphaulted this weekend and I have some on my car as well. Can't see it too much since the R is Black, but I'm not worried about cleaning it...since the R is getting repainted this week...

I don't know that I'd trust myself with brake cleaner on paint.

definately do NOT use brake cleaner.
try to find a 3M product for bug and tar removal and please use a quality wax afterwar.
see if you can find the number of the construction company and complain the road was not allowed ample time to dry before opening.

i use a tar and bug remover for the cars I detail which is custom made for my company. It's just an industrial solvent that is safe on all paints. You can probably get the same thing from any auto parts store. Just make sure you wax afterwards.
Goof-off is not something I would suggest putting on a visible part of your car's paint unless you want to see how pretty your paint looks when it is on your rag.

Just happened to my friends GS300. Get Simple Green and spray it on and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. Spray it good. After your done with that it should literally just spray off with a hose. I clay barred (sp?) the entire car and then waxed it.
The other methods seem a bit too harsh, especially for an R.
My method is a bit more time consuming, but again it's your car.
