Default how much was the labor to have your motor built?

Mine is costing me $1600, that includes, hot tank, porting and polishing the head, polishing the crank, fully balanced bottom end and the norm. I just brought in the parts and said put it together. I just want to compare pricing. Thanks.

Sounds like your getting a good price, depending on how specific they get it could definately be more. i would say though, I would get some very solid proof on thier porting work. Unless they have a stble of fast (N/A, not FI) cars with thier head work i would enlist the services of a reputable porter and have them do the build. It will drive the price up a bit, but sub-par head work will be the biggest part of what makes or breaks your build. I can't remember the thread but a kid on here put like 30 hours into a head himself that looked very pretty but when flowed against a pros head with only a valve job it lost...a perfect example of the subtle nuances of what makes good headwork black magic to the average builder.

I would say that is a really good price. You didn't say who is doing it for you, and being from the Chicago area also, just be careful who does it, as you get what you pay for most of the time. You can IM me if you would like elobration

Good luck on the build from a fellow delsol owner.

just so u know, a quality head port on a honda is a different technique then what would be done on a domestic big/small block. I would look into having alaniz or portflow do the p&p. not bashing ur guy cuz i dont know him, but just something to think about.

I was quoted $1100 by a shop to build my B16 shortblock. That was for disassembly, hot tank, balance, polish, bore/hone, reassemble and clay with my head to check clearences. This is from one of the top machine shops in the state. First thing they told me when I showed up is that it will be more expensive than other shops. But if you want it done right..
