Where that break is, has nothing to do breaking on a launch. Something else (bearing most likely or spider pin) let loose in the tranny and the diff./ring gear shot it threw the case.
Most broken trannys from launch have cracks from the bearing housings. Now this is cases we are talking about, some trannys broken from launch just eat everything up inside and leaves the case intact.

^^^ Agreed, but why on earth would the bearings jsut let go? Maybe a pin broke....**** I dunno. Either way its pretty messed up.
reminds me of the time I saw a D16Y8 tear a piston loose from a rod at 2000 RPM under maybe 1/3 throttle.

Bearing release all kinds of junk in the tranny when they atsrt to go bad. Bearing cages start flying around. Eventually one of the peices takes out a main part of the tranny and all hell breaks lose.

hmm, thats interesing and good to know
still don't understand what action as far as driver error would cause this? or is it just a random failure? the dude said he was trying to get on it while turning as if pulling out of a side street or something...
yeah just makes me nervous since I just put in a Quaife LSD in my tranny, and I over twice the power this dude had
I would like to understand what not to do... btw, same dude also said he installed a replacement tranny and it did the same thing. now he's having a shop install the tranny so if it goes again he can blame them I guess...
Alot of one wheel burnouts and ALOT of powering hard around corners will cause this. Just simply wears out where the spiders ride on the pin. After awhile one of the spiders will bind with the pin and twist off the (key pin?) that holds the spider pin in place. The pin that holds the spiders will than just slide out the side of the diff and take out the case.

Yup, we usually get them in the winter. They get stuck and keep on zinging them. Finally they zing the differential pin right out. (whoever said that's a shift rod is a dumbass)

That couldn't look anymore exactly like my b16 cable tranny I blew up last year. I'll snap a pic when I get a chance, you would barely be able to tell the two apart.

Nope, shifter shaft. The one that the shift rod (from the shifter itself) bolts to. Not a cable shifted tranny.
