1999 Accord 4CYL SRS Warning Light On
I know the light indicates that there maybe something wrong with the airbag system. Does anyone have any experience with what the common reasons for the warning are? Trying to avoid the dealer charging me to guess what the reasons are.
The car has been driven 99,500 miles or so. To add a little to the story...
I just had the timing belt, water pump, seals, valves adjusted and oil changed the day before the light came on. The cooling system was not bled of air when the coolant was added so it got pretty warm a few miles from the shop becuase of the pump not moving the coolant properly. After bleeding the air and adding some coolant it runs fine. Probably nothing to do with the recent rework, but thought I would throw it out there.

Not sure what codes are stored yet. I plan on stopping at the local auto parts store and using their code reader. I am not sure if there reader will give the detailed codes for this issue or not, but it's worth a try. I have used it to read an clear CEL codes related to the catalyic converter / O2 sensor issue common to 6th generation accords. Hopefully i'll have some later today or tomorrow.
In response to the bleeding comments.... I wish I knew...busy shop... The owner knows his stuff, but one of his lackeys missed it apparently.

I don't think the autoparts store will be able to read the SRS code.
Common code is 9-3 DRVR SEAT BELT SW FAILURE...covered under warranty lifetime

Disconnecting the battery shouldn't make the srs light come on. A low battery charge could though.

I was unable to pull any codes with the part store's OBDII reader. Now I know...
The battery was disconnected during the timing belt change. I had to reset the radio settings and the clock when I picked up the car.
I used the SRS reset instructions found in a previous post on Saturday. Since then I have made numerous short and medium length trips and the light hasn't come on yet. I guess I will keep my eye on it for now.
Thanks for the inputs.

from what i understand the scanner needs a Honda "card" in it to be able to read the SRS light. If the scanner doesnt have the specific card it will only be able to read OBDII codes and nothing else (ie SRS, TCS, ABS, etc).
As for the seat swap i think that should still be covered. (best to check w/your local dealer)
I havent ever seen a disconnected battery set a SRS code, but as stated earlier a low charged battery would.
