It's just the greatest mp3 deck out there in my opinion. I haven't seen the new pioneer yet so except for that one. Reasons are as follows.
1. It plays the mp3 as soon as it reads the file, it doesn't even wait for the id3 tag. If you've ever used mp3 players then you know what I mean, they take forever to play a file.
2. The dmask security. I don't know about you guys, but its hard to make a habit of removing your face all the time. With this deck you can flip it over to make it look like nothing is there.
3. This deck plays everything. Stick any scratched up cd in there burned whatever way you want, this thing will play it. I actually made a crappy cdrw that didn't even work in my cdrom that played in this thing. Granted it took awhile to load but it still played.
4. Sound wise vs stock unit I can only refer to an Integra. It made everything sound clearer. You basically get better highs. Low bass richness is the sacrifice though.
Only gripes I have with the unit is that it doesn't have sub preamp outputs, it's not motorized, and the buttons are extremely small. I can live with the these probs but the motorized thing bugs. You have to open the face and then press eject to get your cd out. When you get out of the car you have to manually flip it over. Once kenwood gets a motorized version of this player, I'm all over it.
