What's your opinion on dropping a B20 into a Type R
Let's see where should I start. I got married las year in August, my wife is pregnant with number 2. I've just been working, working, working. I need to get out to a meet. I haven't seen anybody for a long time.
I was going to put a fully built ls-vtec in my R and then rebuild my stock longblock back to factory specs. I guess it depends on what your plans are and what you're trying to achieve.
A built ls-vtec would be cheaper than rebuilding my stock engine and I could rag the **** outta it without caring if it blew or not since I still had my stock engine.

Depends on what your goals are. If you want to keep your car stock or OEM-ish, then I say no. Tear down your c5 and rebuild it back to "new-ish".
If your plans are to track, I'd suggest K20a2 swap....with some 2005 type S cams, S2000 valve springs, type R intake manifold, and hytec header....or just go K20a.
You'll get a very potent powerplant, and OEM factory reliability over OEM frankenstein.

My goal would be daily drivability, with trackability as well. I want my cake and eat it damn it..........

So I don't have a Type R. I have an RS, but am doing as much of a chassis conversion as I can; (albeit) some of the Type R chassis reinforcement isn't worth doing OEM and can be re-done better and cheaper with custom reinforcements.
The RS had a turbo 1.8 motor in it when I first bought it. It was supposed to be solely a tuner daily driver for me. This way I could keep the S2000 as a garage queen/track car. Basically, with the RS I needed it reliable but fast when I want it to be. In Chicago, the weather varies considerably, so did the tune on the motor. It was just too much of a hassle and I was getting absolutely horrible gas mileage for daily driving.
I ended up doing a straight stock K20a2 swap (ok, custom intake and semi custom DC Sports TSX header with a Hondata K-Pro). Let me tell you, this car drives like a Civic HX with the gas pedal down conservatively. I'm getting a range of 30-35 mpg for daily commuting to and from work + errands. Although, when I need to mash the pedal, it's got plenty of go....and that's with a slightly tweaked tune from stock Type S.
There are those days that I've put in my tweaked Type R tune and WOW!!! With the car being as light as it is and the K motor, it is definitely faster from the shot and through corners than my fully Mugen-modded S2000.
I've also chased down some S/C'd S2000's in my local area for hopes to get them out to an S2000 meet. Unbeknownst to them, they think I'm just another rice-rocket racer, when I'm actually trying to catch up to them and invite him/her to our next S2000 meet. A few of those folks got quite a surprise when they tried to "show" me what's up with an S/C'd F20c.
In any case, I'm trying to describe (in as colorful of a way as I can) that the K-swap is daily driveable and trackable without compromise either way. I now have some NEX suspension in the Integ and is only height adjustable with some very heavy rate springs. I bought them thinking about the weight in terms of S2000 needs, not realizing how stiff it makes a lightweight fwd car react on public streets. That's my downfall as to my Integra becoming slightly more of a track car than a daily driver. <---I can handle it for now...but give me another year or so, and my aging bones are going to be crying.

do what u got to do. A type R, etc, it is all over rated, these days.
do what makes you happy and what you are content with.
Just because everybody has a jdm conversion doesn't mean you need it

I also say Do what your heart desires.
I my opinion, though, I would want to drop a B20z w/ ITR head into a CRX... that would be crazy!!!

A little OT but...
I've been always meaning to ask you, but always forget... did you have A/C on the D15 ITR?
Been thinking about it for ***** and giggles, and in the case when I need to pull my long block for some work, but don't want to pay for an "interim" engine
Imagine if I showed up to some car shows with my dirty R and bam! pop the hood

No I didn't, but it could have easily been made to work.

I think it's going to depend mostly on your knowledge, what people you have around to help you, and how much money you want to spend.
You can make a very nice-driving daily driver/track car with a B20, and if you have people around you who know about that, go right ahead.
If you have a little more money, then there is no denying how much more you can get out of a K20. You're building with a more modern design to start with, this is where everyone's concentrating their tuner computer skills, and this is where the aftermarket product development is.

Naw, don't do it. It's a waste cause u'r not gonna get much more outta that.
Besides, u have an ITR... keep it the way it is cause it'll hold more value and prestige.

cuz it don't have enough power!!!!!!!!!
cuz it don't have enough power!!!!!!!!!
Work it then. If you're going to swap out the motor, then you just bought the Type R for the suspension, tranny and the stickers on the side.
