low idle and cooling problem w/ a/c on.
What can I do to keep my car from almost dying when the air kicks on? It idles normally w/o air (around 650-700rpm) but when the air kicks on, the tach drops literally almost to 0 and it usually idles around 450-500rpm. Plus especially on hot days, the temp starts to rise and the air blows hot even with the a/c on. It works normally on expressway but city driving sucks when it's 105 degrees and the air's not working. Any advice would be appreciated.
There appear to be several things going on here involving low idle and lack of a/c cooling. What you have to remember is that everything from engine idle speed to a/c operation in controlled by the ECM. With the a/c engaged, the Idle Air Control Motor should step up the idle to maintain 700rpm. At the same time you should start to hear the secondary radiator cooling fan start to cycle as it tries to maintain airflow thru the condenser. Check for both

as far as your ac goes your heater valve could be open .https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1314617 check my post this could help. includes a pic of the heater valve.
I think one of my fans is shot which might be causing the engine temp to rise when the air is on. How do I check to be sure because a new one is like 150 bucks. thanks.
start car up, put a/c on both fans should come on..if not get a screwdriver and bang the back side of the fan see if it comes on if it does bingo you got a bad fan motor............if not chk to see if you are getting power and bround at fan plug if you get both you got a bad fan motor if not chk the fuses if ok could have a bad relay or wiring problem

the only reason why i did it this way is because i have an extra vaccum line from my swap.
