88 CRX Si suspension
What exactly is different in my cars rear suspension? I notice that alot of aftermarket coilovers don't fit my year or only fit my year as well as with some bushings. What is it exactly, no one has given me a straight answer, thanks.
The rear shocks are different because the lower arms changed on 89-91 models. The later style shocks are the fork style. check out the tread about what year crx is best...there's detailed pics of the different arms.
like he said, the difference is in the lower control arm. its not sure why there was a change in the north american civics, since japan and the rest of the world conintued to use the box in stamped style control arms. so theres nothing really special about it. yes, they did show up again when the Integra Type R came out, but its probably nothing more than the ITR by nature being a limited production car, so they didnt bother making a new shock to fit the north american cast control arm.
this is all thats different that you need to worry about.

I have a couple other questions?
Is the box type better?
What makes my year have the strong rear steering effect?
Is there any disadvantage or is it possible to switch the the newer LCA?
Does switching it get rid of the rear steer effect?
Does putting mugen hard bushings in the trailing arms get rid of the rear steer?
Thanks.

I would say no, people upgrade because more companies make suspension parts for the other type of lca

I see no disadvantages rather then spending money, and yes you can switch.

What is rear steer effect ? Explain that one and I will answer the question. Is it where the rear end wants to go to one side ?

Is the box type better? no real difference.
What makes my year have the strong rear steering effect? higher placement of where the compensator arm bolts to the chassis. cant be easily switched since its welded on.

the change was the result of actual race driver feedback in the american firehawk/escort race series. it was kind of a showroom stock series, modifications were limited and basically they ran at stock ride height. drivers found the rear end very twitchy when braking, too much. as the rear end would TOE OUT as it lifted during braking and nose diving. so they told honda in japan to dial it out. this is fact. i know the drivers who raced the crx then.
Is there any disadvantage or is it possible to switch the the newer LCA? more shock choices. but 88's allow JDM shocks.
Does switching it get rid of the rear steer effect? no.
Does putting mugen hard bushings in the trailing arms get rid of the rear steer? not relevent.
