Default shaving rims...

did a search on this topic and found some people have tried it...

any anecdotes? did your wheels self-destruct 6mos later? i'm looking to shave ~8mm off a set of SSR mkiii's but want to see if people have had experienced a downside to this procedure before...

i'll have a reputable machine shop do the work of course...

8mm off of where?? I'm not at all familiar with this modification...can someone educate me??

Why are we shaving wheels...to save weight?? I'm confused!

haha, no shaving the mounting surface of the wheel to raise the offset. (i.e. you have a +26 offset, you shave 6mm from the mounting surface and now you have a +32 offset and teh wheel doesn't stick out past the fender as much...)

mostly an issue for people in love with a particular wheel that they can only find in lower offsets. like myself.

from most of the wheel repair places that ive spoken to it is usually safe to shave 2-3 mm. it also depends on how the wheel was made and the surface area that needs to be shaved. 8mm is quite a lot and i dont think it can be done. what size and offset are your mkiii's and what car are you trying to put them on

oi. they're 15x7" ssr mk-iii's and they have a +25 offset.
i currently have some veilside rims that are 16x7.5" and +40 and they're just about flush with the body (maybe 1/4inch to spare)

after doing the math I figure the ssr's will stick out maybe ~10mm more than the current wheels (the fit of which is perfect to my eye) so I'm hoping to shave some portion of that down...
