Default Power Steering moans when turning....

On my 96 Accord I have recently started to notice a moan and a very slight shutter of the wheel when I am turning the wheel left or right and the tires are turning slowly. Most noticeable when I am either backing up out of the driveway or making a right or left hand turn when the tires are turning slowly.

I am going to soon be doing a full power steering flush but does something like this sound like it needs a flush or am I looking at something a little bit more serious?

I thought at first it might be axle related, but I check with the previous owner who I work with and they said the axles were replaced about a year ago. I would think that if it was axle related it would be CV Joint's. But it does not sound like the normal CV Joint sound I am used to hearing. It almost sounds like air in the system but I have bled it all out and don't see any leak anywhere. Plus the level is up to capacity.

I had the same problem when I put wider tires on my accord, they just told me at honda that with the wider tires it makes it harder for the power steering pump, and that it wasnt designed for that size...have you put rims/tires on ?

No they are the original stock rims. I know the tires have been changed about a year or so ago but they are the original size. The moan or shutter sounds and feels like it's coming from the engine compartment. Steering though does feel tight and positive. It has not become a big problem yet, but I do want to catch it before it does.

Check your pump...make sure fluid levels are where they should be at in the pump.

yeah my prelude will do that every few years, just drain and flush the power steering fluid, that may take care of it for you too.

On my 85 I have the stutter you speak of, but worse is the massive leak I have on the drivers side ram...I gave up on fixing the problem and now use ATF and fill it up once a week. The ATF keeps the bottom lubed up so I don't have to worry about rust.

Are the pressure and return hoses difficult to change out?

I was thinking that might be a possible cause I had a 91' Chevy Berretta that had a similiar moan and it was the return hose but had never heard of that on Honda.
