Default common hand tools

this may be kind of useless, but here goes.

i am putting together a small collection of hand tools for my little hand box to take places or just leave at home and if i need it, i know where it is and what is in the box. this is more/less for common sized bolts and nuts on an integra. not the kind of tools to do a motor swap. just an emergency kit if you will.

i have a good start, but i do still want to leave my good tools at home in my larger boxes. ive not had to do a great deal of work to my car so i cant think of everything. maybe you have a tool that you would never leave home without that i may not think of.

I swear you can take an entire integra apart with those two sizes.

not to just quote this one, few of you said the same thing. i do have a handy little 1/4 drive metric socket set. its been a handy thing to have. i may just buy another one. that or like more of 10mm/12mm each.

thanks guys

keep it up, unless thats pretty much all. i dunno ... should i keep a quart of oil maybe? or is that too far?

yeah you'll need an 8mm too. I would recommend a crescent wrench just in case you ever need to fool with a english standard bolt that didn't come on the car, or just a really nice socket set.

I would go up to a 14mm 3/8 drive, and a 19mm 1/2 with a 3/8 sizer. The 14mm is good if a bigger bolt is in the way of something smaller (motor mount to get the PS belt on)

19mm for lug nuts. Also I would carry a breaker bar rather then an actuall ratchet. Ratchet wrenchs can break, if you break a breaker bar then you a just screwed anywyas

Carry some wire and a few random ends, splices, eye loops, jsut incase a wire fries. Fuses, both types, just incase someone else is stuck and you are helping them out. Vise grips, Duct tape and electrical tape, couple spare small bulbs. Small thing of lube or anti sieze (1gram packets)

That is all I can think of

I know man, when I work on my car I just have those two sockets sitting there, and normally if its not one, its the other.

8,10,12,14,17,19,32 mm will take care of everything you need..

i tried to look for a craftsmen toolkit and they only carry stuff from 7mm-14mm or somehting like that.. The only toolkit that has everything is like 300 bucks...

In regards to the quart of oil, no I don't think it's going too far. Even if you don't need it, there's a pretty good chance someone around you will at some point. I generally just keep the "leftovers" from my oil change in my backseat stash and rotate it with the next change.

I am thining about putting an emergency kit together too.
I think flashlight / w extra batteries
1st aid kit
road flare
knife for cutting seat belt in case of accident would be good too.

Some other things too
A rotten Banana
Shaving cream
six pack of grape soda
and a deck of cards

What do you guys think? ?

Exactly. It's always good to bring oil for people around you.

You should also consider brining a torque wrench with a 19mm socket for your lug nuts. I know not all people torque their lugs but I had a wheel almost roll off my car while driving on some city streets from jumping on the tire iron to tighten them instead of using the torque wrench. It would even be a good idea to have if you ever had to take your spark plugs out on the fly. You could stick them back in and make sure they where torqued right. haha just a thought.
