I've installed my autometer oil temp gauge recently and i get a reading of 210 - 220. Is this normal?

How much Celcius is that? It should be around 95 Celcius during normal conditions.
On the track it could rise to 120-130 degrees C.

with hard track use my old C1 never got above 220 F, but that was an OBD 1 motor with factory cooler. temp was measured in the sump.

 

Yeah that's street driving. btw my oil temp gauge is connected to the engine block, not sump. Which is more accurate?

 

In the sump... in contact with the oil.

The heat from the engine block may skew the #'s.

I've been curious about this.. how relative is coolant temp to oil temp?

I have a Fluidyne radiator, Spoon thermoswitch and t-stat in my CX, and my water temp has never gone above 165 degrees. Usually stays within 150-155 while I am driving 99% of the time. Only hits 165 in sitting traffic.

 

put the hondata gasket on mike and watch your coolant temps drop about 30 degrees. you will see it on my car when i am done there at the end of march although josh should have it on by the beginning of march and my hondata has datalogging so you can see the info if you want

 

Mike -

If you have a factory cooler, you'll see the highway driven oil temp reflect the thermostat temp due the the fact the water temp will cool/heat the oil to that temp.
Also, having the heat on or not will GREATLY effect the oil temp if a factory cooler is use.
