everytime i take my rad cap off, coolant explodes everywhere, why?

Its cause you change the boiling point of the fluid when you take the rad cap off and then the fluid blows out.
rad is brand new. motor has 156k.
lines are as old as the engine.
could i possibly have air in the coolant system from when i changed the radiator?

I know you said it's new but you might want to try another radiator cap. If the headgasket was blown I'd imagine your radiator would have air in it.
