bad gas mileage after pcv valve change. any ideas whats wrong?
i changed my pcv valve the other day and it seemed like evertyhing was good. my mileage went up, car idled better, and it didnt smoke as much. when i refilled and went through the next tank my gas mileage got significantly worse (16.9 MPG) and it would idle funky every once in a while as well. now the PCV valve before was red and the one i replaced it with was black. i didnt think this was much of a deal because they both looked essentially the same and fit exactly the same. could it be something else that is causing my mileage to be so low like this? im not driving the car any different than i was before.
i checked on the pcv valve and it is in good working condition. so thats not it. could it be that i need a new fuel filter or something? its got about 60k miles on the motor so im sure it needs to be replaced anyway. any other ideas on whats wrong?

You most likely got bad gas. It happens from time to time. If it is still the same after your next fill up, check to make sure that the valve is in all the way and that it operates the way it should.

Take it out and blow through it. It should seal one way and let air through the other.
You also might want to check and see if the vacuum line attached to it is secure.

To test a PCV valve, you pinch the vac line behind the valve. It should tick if working properly.
