You need another cluster because the speedo head in the Ex cluster is bad, or else swap in your CX speedo head into the EX cluster.

I just did a guage cluster swap for a guy the other day for the same reason, the tach. Because of the difference in odometer readings we took out his speedo and put it in the EX cluster. This is what you have to do.

1. Use needle-nose pliers to pull the black rubber off the end of the trip meter reset.

2. On the top and bottom of the gauge cluster there will be 3 locking tabs. Gently press these with a flat head screw driver. You will have to maintain pressure as you press all 3 on one side. Once one side is free the other side should come off.
Remove this front shroud.

3. There is 3 screws on the back of the cluster holding in the speedo. Remove these and it will simply lift out. Repeat the same process for the other gauge cluster and swap speedos.

4. Reassembly in opposite order.

There must be something wrong with the speedo in the cluster you bought. The wiring is the same between the gauge clusters you speak of. One funny thing we noticed was his shift light lit up the cruise control indicator light.. Hmmm.. Anyway just swap the gauges..

this is very easy...you should just swap the tach that is in the EX cluster over to your CX cluster. Three screws on the back and the gauge comes out. Put it on your original cluster and you will know that the speedo works and you will still be able to keep track of all your original miles.

I'm not sure this is possible wiring wise. But if you did do this you would have to take the tach and the temp/fuel gauge from the EX cluster since the temp is where the tach would be on the CX cluster. Like I said not sure if what John in NorCal said will work. Even if it would just swapping the CX speedo in would take 1/2 as long. Replacing one gauge as opposed to two..

The VX already has a tach, and the CX one doesn't. Can't put a tach on a non-tach housing

My friend had a CX and it was a for sure bet the speedo would swap, but I didn't want to **** around trying to see if 2 guages were compatible. Maybe I'll have to try it one of these days..
