1993 delsol.....new 16" rims....help please
Hey guys,
Just bought a set of 16x7 rims for my 93 delsol S. Was wondering what the widest size tires I could run without a major amount of rubbing. Was thinking about 215/40-16. Anyone have an experience with these or can you offer advise on maybe a more suitable size or maybe you run super fat tires in the back with a narrower tire in front. Any info, suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciateed PS car had not been lowered yet, but Il most likely get it lowered about 1.5-2.0".
Thanks in advance,
Tom

unless you are getting coilovers or some adjustable suspension, i would lower the car first then take it to a tire store and get some advise for you. the tire size u mentioned would be fine, depending on how low the car sits.. but i personally wouldnt rock some 40 series tires on some 16's... and use the same size all the way around.. doesnt make sense to use wider tires in the back.. plus u can rotate them and get use out of all the tires when needed

wow...........thats was quick! thanks for the responses so far. i want to stay around the same OD on the tires as the stock ones so it doesnt throw off the speedo and kill my virtually non existant bottom end power. 205/40 figure up to almost the same as stock. what can I say im use to bigger cars......315/35's and 275/40's.........thanks for the info guys.
any guidance on places the purchase? I have delt with tire rack years ago and there prices weren't to bad. Any better places now a days?

what kinda driving do you plan on doing? tread wear, weather conditions, etc should be factors to consider too. Otherwise Ebay and local tire shops tend to have the lowest prices.

commuting mostly. and wider in the back cause of looks thats all. ive built lots of street and race cars and they alwasy look better with a slightly wider profile in hte back. but yes you're correct FWD so why.
This is my opinion but I think putting wider tires on the back of a fwd car is
pointless and looks kinda ricey, well really ricey, almost to the point of being a dumb idea in the first place. This is my reasoning.
1. if you put wider tires in the back of your car you will not be able to rotate them.
2. the only functional reason you would put wider tires on the back of a car would be for traction. You have a fwd car, why do you need traction in the back?
3. your trying to make a fwd car look like a rwd car, this is not going to look cool at a red light when your showing out and someone notices your larger rear wheels and then suddenly sees that when you burn out the smaller front tires are the ones smoking, even someone who knows squat about cars is going to think this looks really cheesy.
4. If your going to put wider tires on a fwd car put them in the front but unless you have a reason for it like say a 300 hp drag car this is useless.
this is just my opinion but some people prefer fashion over functionality.

Well, if I should lower it first that's cool. How much can I lower the car before I need to put all the camber correction kits on it? Do any of you guys just cut a coil or two off the stock springs or is it more common to just get a set of eibachs or something? I really dont need or want adjustable coilovers. I was just curious if the camber kits are mandatory as soon as you start lowering it. Oh yeah, this is a budget build as I am just doing this for fun, just wanted it to sit a little lower without dumping a ton of money into the car. I alredy have a race car, so this is just the fun, sporty car I drive to work everyday.
Thanks,
Tom
