Default Temperature Gauge Issues

I have been seeing something odd with my temp gauge for the last few months. Temp comes up to just below half (Normal) when 20% or less throttle applied or at idle. When I open the throttle further the gauge drops rapidly - much faster than I think the engine temp could actually change. Anyone else seen similar problems? Suggestions?

Thermostat is probably bad. My car took forever to warm up and would go cold when I was driving above 20 mph. When I replaced it, problem fixed!!

Warms up fast though, don't think it is stuck open. Could be wrong though. I'll pull it and check. I can be going 100mph with little throttle and the temp will be normal - only when I open it up a little does it drop. Takes maybe 5 seconds to go from normal to cold. That seems too fast for the temperature to actually change.

My temp guage is doing the same thing, i'll be driving and sometimes it'll read normal temp, then i'll glance down again and it'll be all the way cold, when theres no way it could be. Is this the thermostat also?

OK here goes I have a 95 GSR In a 94 ls body the car runs good most of the time but some times at narrow throttle it surges. The temp guage has been reading low since I did the swap so I taught it was the thermostat (causing the car to run cold and lean out) and changed it. Now it reads a little higher but it just gets up to the C mark. So now I am wondering if the sending unit is bad or if the engine's sending unit is different than the original one or if the guage is bad. And if you are wondering if the thermostat fixed the problem I am not sure yet and I'll let you know.

OK, the thermostat fixed the serging problem I guess the car was running too cold but I could'ent tell because, I checked the sending unit and the guage and found out I need a new guage.

OK Help you guys I changed my Temp Guage and its still not working properly.
When the car is running at 185* it shows 1 mm over cold. and when I ground the wire from the sending unit it only goes up to half. I am thinking its a wiring problem but I was hopeing you guys could save me some time. I have a VFAC installed and I don't know if this could be causing the problem. Help!!!
