Default Drive train upgrade question: appx cost?

ok, i'm not a newbie .. but here is my newbie/retard thread with ignorant questions. from the looks of it they seem to be popular these days.

i'm graduating next month and starting to work again. woohoo! so i'm thinking of changing my daily driver. right now it is an '89 civic si. i like the car and would like to keep it but it irritates the **** outta me right now. i'm thinking if i upgrade the drivetrain to something a little more powerful the fun factor will override the impracticality of it.

so the question is, what am i looking to spend, ballpark figure, for a "stronger" motor? i'm not looking to be "quick", just more powerful. i want to retain my a/c and am not limiting myself to using stock mounts, i would consider upgrading to a b series that requires aftermarket mounts/linkage. i'm trying to talk myself out of buying a new car just yet with its obligatory rediculous car payments and insurance and instead just drop a couple thousand into this car. sooo ... for anyone who has done this recently, what am i looking to spend? i would want to replace all "replaceable" parts, as in belts, hoses, pumps, clutch etc. with stock parts. i am not interested in aftermarket parts or performance parts. just a reliable stock honda motor. and i would be doing none of the work myself, so a "labor" estimate would be helpful if possible.

ok, any help would be appreciated, or you could just laugh and close the window. i know thats what i would do if i saw this post.

i did search, as i always have over the 3 years of so i have been on this board, hence the miniscule post count. unfortunately, there are no new, intelligent, threads that could be found that pertained to this exact situation. if i have to look through 1000 posts, filled with idiotic comments like yours, to find what i'm looking for then i'm not going to look. i refer you to the last line of the original post.

did you search for your intake mani woes? or did you just say, this is a unique situation ... lets start a new post...

damn what a rant ... punctuation is your friend. all that typing and all that time spent bitching and you didn't even take a second to try to answer the question. what a waste of time.

you know they don't want to hear ignorant questions like this, thats why i posted it on the internet. anyway, the advice of thousands of people who have probably just been through this exact problem will be more helpful than one person's opinion.

EDIT: i have read that response several times now and i still don't think i understand it completely. i think reading comprehension is my friend, that SAT score must have been a fluke.

its not time, its called search. i did it and within seconds i found a thread that was, maybe helpful for you, absolutely meaningless to me.

the swap itself and the install is the easy part, i already have basic ideas about those two, the variable i am not sure of is the parts needed to replace. i'm not familiar enough with the differences between motors to know what to price as far as replacement parts go. i do not want to swap motors and have it run horrible, because then the swap would be pointless for me.

but thanks for the estimate.

Your options for cheap OEM engine swaps basically are :

first gen b16 (160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression (JDM)) -$1250

B16A 92-95 (SiR-II) Motor, Tranny, ECU - $1750:
170Hp 113Trq 10.4 Compression (JDM)
160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression (USDM)

B18B 94-01 (LS) : $2200
145Hp 127Trq 9.4 Compression (JDM)
142Hp 127Trq 9.2 Compression (USDM)

All these prices are from hmotorsonline.com and dont include shipping

You will also need mounts (check the sponsers for some good prices)
axles (raxles.com makes hybrid ones)
and wiring, check out http://www.rywire.com for all your needs

If you plan to do the b16 or b18 goto http://www.droppedcrxsi.com for a great step by step walkthrough
