Help. Heres the deal guys, got a b16 wit a super 60 t3 (internally gated) thats brand new. When boosting I can hear the turbo suckin in huge amounts of air, almost like a friggin jet engine its so loud. I had a T3 before this so I kno it aint suppose to sound like this. Plus when I let off the gas it sounds like my bov (greddy type-s) is making this really weird noise that is also EXTRA loud. Atleast I think its comin from my bov, but it almost sounds like it is comin from the turbo. And no, its not the regular pssssshhhh. I know how it should sound, its almost like the sound is muffled but its super loud also. And i dont know how to describe this next part but ill try my best...When boosting WOT the car pulls ok but sometimes its like it goes out of boost for a split second then back into boost. I wish there was a better way to describe all this but its the best I can do. I kno most of you are gonna say you have a boost leak somewhere but believe me when I say this, i dont have any leaks anywhere, I literraly spent the whole afternoon lookin for leaks, and nothin. And almost forgot, I dont know if this has to do with any of the problems I mentioned but whenever I give the car gas while drivin and then let off, you can count to 3 from when you take your foot off the gas and then theres a really faint high pitch whistle that probably isnt noticeable to the average person, but if you listen closely you can hear it everytime. Its weird cause sometimes the car pulls really friggin hard and then it wont pull that much at all but then go back to pulling really hard again.....I dont kno wtf is goin on, someone plse give me some advice here. Also if anyone is in the central nj area, and think they could really help me out, Id be more than glad to meet up with you so you can give me your opinion on what is wrong here.....Thanks guys, let me kno....

 

boost spike? are you watching the boost gauge when you hear it "go in and out of boost"

and my friends stock wrx turbo is louder than my gt32e...and the size differences are deff. noticable

 

yes. its stays steady at 7-8 psi. not spikin at all. and no, you dont understand the sound is ****** ridiculously loud. its like all the air rushin into the turbo is being amplified 5o times. and the sound when i let off the gas does not sound normal. i kno how this bov sounded on my last turbo, and the way it sounds now is totally differant. like i said its like its not even comin from the bov, but how could that be? wtf knows.

 

Does it sound like a low rumble when boost comes on? If so, I've been having a similar problem and can't figure it out.

 

Sounds like a boost leak to me and i have read that you completly checked everything but i mean you could have easilly over looked it. When i first bought my dsm i have had **** load of boost leaks and i took care of every one and still had one and it took me a while and i found it and it was right on throttle body bolt.

 

The turbo sucking in air may be normal... some turbos just makes more noise then others... The noise when you left off the gas may be compressor surge, the pressure doesn't release from blow off but back out the compressor.

 

u guys are makin it seem like this noise is normal. believe me when i say this, this noise is not normal at all. if it was a boost leak id be loosin boost, right. well im hold steady at 7-8 psi. so thats not the problem. now tonight when i was drivin it i went to boost in 2nd gear and didnt get any pull at all, but then i tried it again 2 mins later and it boosted like there was no problem just the fact that when the turbo spooled up it was the usual loud *** sound of the air rushin into the turbo. need some more advice please!!

 

Nope my car held 15psi with 3 decent boost leaks

 

i will check again, but i honestly dont think that is my problem right now. ive had boost leaks in the past and none of them made my turbo sound like this when it spools up....
