I just raced a Nissan 240 this afternoon and it made a really wierd sound! When the RPM's started getting high and then he shifted it sounded like a short burst from an air compresser hose it was very loud and everytime he shifted??? Anyone know what it might be???

sounds like a sr20det engine, he was probably turboed by the way you described it. If that's the case he wasn't trying, 240s with sr20dets run mid 14's in the 1/4....

BOV making that noise, Blow Off Valve. Im sure this guy had a pretty nice motor, but who knows his mods, what were you driving?

 

Could've been a turbo ka24, the stock motor. Either way he must not have been trying.
