Have a load test done on your alternator/charging system.

if anyone might have an alternative solution to this problem please let me know. When the car changes its idle speed to correct the rough idle sometimes i see the lights dim and then the engine returns to normal idle...

Go to autozone and have your alt checked, really not that hard.

most of the time they check that **** for free...

but if your alt is going bad you would think that it would run worse when you turn your lights on, not off.

the shaking part could also be your motor mounts????

had same prob with my 95DX exsept it only shook when i was sitting still, in gear
ended up being motor mounts

well i had that problem once and it was my intake mani gasket but that might not be your problem. Second if it was your alt, i dont think ur car will start as good anymore. Third, check all ur belts too, fuses the whole SHA BANG! Most of the time Auto Zone ppl dont know CRAP! and i mean CRAP! they work there for nothing. Seriously, anyway check those things first before bringing it to autozone , how much miles (original) are on ur car??

no its not his motor mounts, that wont effect the idle problem.

It's not the alternator... I have the same problem but I didn't fix it because I don't drive it on the streets anymore.

Anyways, the idle smooths out with the lights on because the load detector and ecm bumps up the idle due to the electrical load on the alternator.
