Default Red Lining at 5600RPMs - why?

My 95 Civic EX is redlining at 5600RPMs. Sometimes it will go clear to 7000RPM, but what is the problem? is it a VTECH computer error?

The only time i really started noticing this was after i forgot to put my sunroof up and it rained about 2inchs of water in my back floor. Would this have anything to do with messing up my computer?

what do you mean by redlining at 5600? thats not possible, maybe for some odd reason you are hitting the rev limiter at 5600? unless you have a chipped ecu with a reduced rev limit or something i dont get it.

if you know anyone with a civic 92-95 ex, si, or anyone with a stock p28 ecu you should try to swap ecu's to see if thats the problem. maybe some rain got on yours...

well, i dont know exactly how to say what it is doing. at 5500.. sometimes i can get 6000RPM, but what happens is it hits a limit around 5700RPM. I know it used to reach 6700RPMs before it would ever hit the limit point.

Ill have to look up where to get an ECU...

If you were in limp mode you could definitely feel the power loss and and bogging.

what is "limp mode"?
there are times when i floor it that i feel "spikes" of power that other times i usually dont feel. probably around 5000RPMs.

i dont know much about the whole VTECH thing, but is it possible that it isnt working. as in, when it is supposed to kick in (around 5700RPM) its actually not, and thats why its hitting the limit?

Also could be your cluster going bad. When you redline at 5600 does it sound like it's 5600 or 6800(or wahtever ex redline).

Have ecu ever been chipped.

this car is pretty much stock. so i dont know if its been "chipped" before. i would bet not.

when i hit 5600, or 6000RPM is sounds like its about to blow, lol. i dont really feel anymore power after about 6000RPM even if it does go that far or further either. Although, when i first bought the car, before the rain soaked the back floor, it seemed to run stronger. probably not much, but noticable.

im going to go run it for a while and see if it will hit 7000RPM after warmed up.
the tach says the limit is like 7200RPM..by the way.

Sounds like you're trying to redline it before the car's warmed up to me. And it's ******* VTEC, not "VTECH". Can you read? I mean, you can obviously spell so I would assume that you could read the four letter word on your valve cover, right?

vtech vtec, whatever. i dont type about engine parts every day. and is VTEC a word?

after it is warmed up it will reach about 6200RPM before reaching its rev limit. not a big deal i guess, sounds like.

what was "limp mode" again? lol

Vtec is an acronym for Variable valve-Timing and lift Electronic Control. VTECH is a phone. I won't **** on you over the error, but it does get really annoying. You will get flamed A LOT if you spell out VTECH instead of VTEC.

.
Notice the difference?

who cares its against the rules anyways.

- Keep the thread ON TOPIC. If a member asks where the VTECH solenoid is on his or her car, just answer. No need for the VTECH phone pictures, no need for 20 posts calling him a noob and telling him how VTEC is spelled. Honestly, it’s not that important. Answer their question and then get on with your day.

doe sit misfire? idle correctly? check oil it could be low. also, check ur ignition wires and spark plugs. I recently had water above my spark plug and it ruined my wire, so my car wouldn't idle properly and it would bog and misfire all crazy goodluck

i was being humorous by pointing out the ERROR in saying that vtec was a word because its NOT. if we are going to be so grammatical!
and again.. as mentioned, lets keep to subject and not flame all day. you are not that special ... really.
