Default chipped crank pulley

so i noticed under the hood of my car on my engine the crank pulley is chipped. it's chipped on the outer part where i think it's for the a/c belt maybe? but the chip is about half a inch to a inch long on that outer part.. it doesn't effect wether if the belt can stay on, but i was thinking this must put the pulley out of balance. would this be really bad and cause to further serious damage?/

If you believe in underdrive pulleys and lightened flywheels blowing up your engine then yes it does affect it greatly. However I really wouldn't worry about it. It might matter if you rev it up to like 14k or something but for most engines it's probably okay to be a little out of balance.

how come when this aftermarket vs. oem crank pulley discussion comes up the arguement never changes?...everyone who has never owned an aftermarket one talks mad **** about em...and the people who run em always say they work great..just my a good quality one and ur set...there is no point in going cheap for a part like that

I had one get a chip in it and I could swear you could hear it vibrating and feel it vibrating and when I replaced it problem solved
Maybe I was just paranoid

The crank is internally balanced. The crank pulley is used to dampen vibration at a particular RPM. A chip on the pulley has no effect. A small scratch on the crank itself has a profound impact on engine life and on how safely you can rev into the high RPMs.
