Default Hatchback exhaust, what happend to the N1?

Hey guys, I noticed that the new style apex-i n1 for the 92-95 hatches does not go below the axle nor does it have that "jdm" slant as much as it did before. my guess is due to clearances issues, however I thought they fit pretty well if you weren't slammed to far. So my question to you guys, what other catbacks do you think work well on the venerable hatch? Its different from a coupe, or a TEG or any other Honda, without the proper looking exhaust the hatch just doesn't look the same, and the old skool N1 put that aggressive looking angle on the rear end.

I know, "search", but I don't want to look through old pic threads, I want your opinnions on a system that is readily available now, and what you think about them.

They are all the same crap. Most important thing is making sure it has 2.5" piping and mandrel bends. Most of the popular exhaust brands only have 2.36" piping, which IMO is too small for all motor.

Whole heartedly disagree about the 2.5" piping. 2.25" is plenty for a 1.6 sohc all motor. The Apex'i WS or N1 are like you said 2.36" which is optimal. Do you think a wonderful company like Apex'i just picked that size for no reason? Hell no, they do what we call R&D.

ONLY go with 2.5" piping if it's crush bent, or else you are decreasing the back pressue of the exhaust system and in turn lowering your dynamic cylinder compression and loosing power.

Peace

2.36" is good. 2.5" should only be used on DOHC engines or SOHC forced induction applications.

they all work pretty much the same, but design and looks wise, what are you guys running, I think the hatchback either looks good or like **** from the rear based on the exhaust, thats just me personally, I see some wierd exhausts put on, straight out, slanted, whatever they may be, its just not complete unless the *** looks right

Well, I'm not into the looks. I would care more about the performance of these systems. The Apex'i N1 or WS are great looking and great performing exhausts.

The N1 is of course a unique looking setup. BUT, if you don't have a mildly built motor it probably isn't worth the louder exhaust note.

rsr gt II has the apex i's old school style and sounds really nice too... no bends! i think it is 60mm or something, it is like a little under 2.5 inches.

i agree with u on the look of the n1 for the hatchback they mad it come out kinda straight because of the ground clearnace issues i have a 94 coupe with a 00 si N1 and i love it.

my friend said that the N1 off of the 00 is a little bigger than the other 1

whatever you say.....

How do you figure 2.36" is optimal? I've done some research myself, it's called the All Motor forum, and if you do happen to read the posts in there you will notice that they won't even consider anything under 2.5".

Here is something else to consider, if your engine isn't "built" enough to "require" a 2.5" exhaust, then spending $400-800 for a 2.36" and 3whp might not be such a great idea.
