Help with air conditioning. Wont kick on
Just got my 90 LX 4dr about a month ago. The A/C wasn't working so I thought it just needed a recharge but that wasn't it. THe problem is, when I turn the air on and press the AC button, it doesn't kick in at all. You know how when you press the button you can hear sort of a click, and feel the engine RPMs drop for a second and then go back up. Well mine doesnt even do that..... Can anyone help me out?

there is a 'low pressure' switch on the system that closes only when there is enough refrigerant in the system. when charging the system, then compressor stays off until there is enough R-* in the sytem to close this switch-- btw: you should use an A/C gauge set when servicing the system.
did you try charging the a/c sys?

Oh yea sorry, forgot to tell you I already recharged the system. The gauge says its at the right PSI so I dont think its that.

If it was the clutch, would you still hear a "click" from under the hood when you press the A/C button? Because when I press the A/C button nothing happens. The "click" you usually hear, does it come from the compressor or is it some type of relay?

honestly I can't remember my a/c was either not there or working for so long i forget what a broken clutch acts like but your problem sounds like my old one with a fried clutch
sorry couldn't help more

Fixed it! Turns out for some reason my A/C relay isnt getting the 12v signal for it to kick the compressor on. I spliced in a wire to the power wire of the relay, then hooked the other end up to a 12v sorce and the compressor kicked on, so now i have working A/C
Imma hook up a temp. switch tomorrow until I find out why itwasn't getting the signal (might be the ECU, my friend had a similar prob and turns out the A/C part of the ECU stopped working). Thanks for the help guys!
