Default EF vs. EG

searched, didn't find much.

I'm going to buy a civic hatch as a daily driver and track *****. I have a 944 Turbo that is definetly not daily driverable. I want an EG, but I'm thinking it may be worth the money i save on the EF. either car will soon get a B16, possibly built. either car will see koni yellows with GC's and 400-500 pd springs. So either car setup this way, which will perform better. I am very familiar with my freinds GSR, and its nice that the EG is setup exactly the same, but will the EF perform at least as well at the track?

Consider that I am in the Los Angeles area, where the price of EG's are quite inflated.

If anyone has a good car (preferably unmolested) for sale for a good price, feel free to contact me! I'm hoping to have AC on this one, but ABS, PS, cruise and all the crap is not important.
Thanks everyone.
~Eyal
P.S. Whats a good EF model to buy?

How is the EF suspension setup? as good as the EG? Will it handle as well with an EQUAL setup as the EG? No torsion bars? double wishbone? Independant?

Ef crx handles excellent. And yes 89-91 ef's have double wishbone suspension. the 88 had something else. Not exactly sure what its called

88's are exactly the same in terms of design.

forget what youve heard about "passive rear steering" all civics and integras have it.

suspension wise they are very similiar, the EF will be a little lighter, but the EG swaps in B series easier,.....overall from a cost to performance ratio the EF wins for sure...

Anything that can be done to the eg can be done to the ef.
Weight and preference are the deciding factors.
I'd choose the ef because it's lighter and more challenging.

Keep in mind that if weight is a concern, a lower trim EG is goin go be lighter than almost any EF with door mounted seatbelts. EFs are not always lighter.

So basicaly bro. Both ef and eg are pretty much equal for modding. It all boils down to what you perfer better

Its easier & cheaper on a EG. Due to the fact there's less modification involving than a EF. For example, doing a simple B16 swap is easier and bolts right up on a EG rather than an EF, where as you have to buy aftermarket mounts (most don't fit right), slight or heavy modification to have a A/C (if it is true daily driven), swapping out interiors, i.e. seats, etc, etc.

Yes, I do drive a EG, but I do own 2 EF. I've actually own about 5 EFs in the past 5 years. Just one EG.

But as far as wieght goes, I go for the EF over the EG, but thats what my opinion matters.

The subject can be rather difficult to answer since there are more good points between the two.

Just my view, since someone else today as me at work the same question.

eh yeah true the EG has a SOHC vtec in the SI Z6 right? vs the 108hp D16a6 in the crx si i think the weight is 25lb or 50lb more on the z6 over the a6 not sure. but if you put an itr in a eg vs a ef ... the ef starting shell is lighter than the eg by a few pounds, could make a difference?

Go with an EG. A CX model is plenty light enough, looks a hell of a lot nicer than an EF, and swapping in a B-series is easy as ******* cake. Plus if you get an Si model the engine is already a great starting point until you get that B16. If you really want a treat, get a VX which is already wired for VTEC, yet still slow and cheap enough to find them all around.

I've owned three CRX's and I can tell you a few things about EF's. 1) Less features. 2) Small engine bay 3) Aftermarket mounts aren't free. 4) Uglier. Chicks dig newer looking cars more than bitchin 80's cars. 5) Less reliable (they are older therefore more prone to rust, shot wiring, etc.) 6) Just as hard to find parts for if not harder. 7) Cable tranny is not as nice as hydro, and converting over costs money. 8) EG's are safer. 9) The dash is way nicer. 10) If you want a power everything, that's easy on an EG, but tons of work and money on an EF.
