Code Help... search but don't understand it
Ok, I have a 90 Accord EX, CEL Light comes on sometimes during start up, so it came on this time and I checked the light... well there are 2 blinking lights, the one of the left did 4 fast and 1 slow, thats 41 correct, well that is Automatic Transmission Signal "B" defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor, what in the world is that? I don't have any problems with my tranny or anything so I'm unsure.
Now, the light on the right, I don't know what this one is, it blinked 8-1-2-7 all with a pause between them which I guess seperated the numbers... Anyone help me with this, I've been getting HORRILBE gas mileage and I think its related.

Ok, now I found that code 41 is o2 sensor problem... I recently tired going through inspection and I failed for emissions and my poor gas mileage I would say I need a new 02 sensor don't you think? lol... anyone, could someone tell me which one is code 41 and what are the 2 lights?
Nevermind, I read the troubleshooting code wrong... on the site I read 31 and not 41... apparrently it is my o2 sensor and will be fixed tomorrow... anyone know how long I should disconnect my battery to reset the ECU?
diconnect the battery for a couple minutes...i would say 10 or 15 and then reconnect and start the car and let it idle for 10 or 15 minutes without touching the gas pedal...
Thanks... thought 10-15 should be enough with it... I hope this thing changes my gas mileage around.... on bone stock motor I'm getting about 16-17 mpg

It will NTM your car will run better. What were your emission results?

In the wonderful state of NJ here were my readings
NOx Standard 1323 Reading 1981 FAILED
HC Standard 173 Reading 57 PASSED
CO% Standard 0.98 Reading 0.65 PASSED
So only thing I failed for was the NOx level.... along with the o2 Sensor I'm gonna replaced my cat with a new one that I have laying around... so you think that'll def. help me pass? I got 201K on this car so I know the cat gotta be shot and just today I did a basic tune up... any other tricks to passing emissions?

Well I actually just cleaned my EGR today too.... there wasn't a lot of build up on it... I cleaned it the best I could and bolted it back down.... How could I fix my timing? I know my old plugs, the gap was huge... like at least .70mm or something, I gapped my new ones to the .44 so don't know if that'll make a difference
Actually, you know what, when I tired cleaning the port going into the intake manifold, the carb spray I used seemed to just sit there and not go anywhere... could I have blockage... just farther down? How easy would it be to pull the manifold back or off?
Unfortunately an engine designed and tuned to produce low CO and HC produces high NOx The hotter an engine runs the more power it delivers, the more NOx it produces.
Late Model vehicles operate with a very lean A/F mixture so the NOx is very high and a "three way Catalyst is incorporated converting CO, HC and NOx.
A device called the E.G. (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve was designed to lower the combustion temperatures by recirculating exhaust gasses back into the combustion chamber.
High NOx on driving Test
- Inoperative or ineffective EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system
- Excessive lean air/fuel ratio
- Inoperative or missing catalytic converter (three way catalytic)
- Excessive spark advance
- Faulty Thermostatic Air Cleaner (TAC) system
- Defective computerized engine management and/or Oxygen sensor
- Engine Deposits (Carbon)
- Engine Mechanical defect(s)
I would say change your cat and also do this DIY and you WILL pass on your nox: http://home.comcast.net/~em-engineering/T2T013.pdf

hmmm... after reading that thing, I cause I didn't clean the right thing... I cleaned a little tower lookin thing held on by 2 12mm bolts and has a diaphram thing in it. So I gotta clean out where those little dots under my fuel rail? I just checked and there's 6 of them? I guess that correct and I just follow the DIY
How would I be able to tell if I have the removeable ones BTW... I saw 6 holes not 4 and the plugs look just like the one in the picture that say 90's don't have em

Yes those plugs usually need to be tapped and drilled so where you can have access to them in the future. Honda made the oem ones so where they weren't 'removeable' but that isn't anything a drill and tap set won't fix
. Its weird because some 90-93 accords have 6 some have 4...either way, follow that DIY and clean out the egr

Cool... I know what I'm doing tomorrow... so all I gotta do is clean that little hole and thats it? You'd think there'd be more or something to it
