Well I have a d16a1 I need to get the speedo out of. On my last 3 attempts (different/spare trannies) I busted the speedo all up.
I live in the land of corrsion so I am sure that may have something to do with it.
As far as I can see I just unbolt the one bolt and it shoudl (therotically) come out.
Also will a d16a6 speedo gear work in a d16a1 tranny?
HELP need to know by tomorrow seeing I am going to buy a different d16a1 tranny since I have no idea how to get it out.

on the side, on the top? is it just the one bolt holding it in place or is there any type of hidden snap ring?

try on all sides...there should be only 1 screw that goes on top the holds it in place. you could also try prying lightly between the tranny and the s.s. with a screw driver. is the part where the screw goes in aluminum?

yeah there is like a little tab. I think its aluminum. Thats how I broke them before. I was trying to tap it out with a flat head, chisel, etc. and they busted.

If you have access to compressed air,use a blower nozzle
to blow out any sand/debris around the top where it goes into the case.
Soak the area liberally with a penetrating oil like PB Blaster..
Lock a small pair of vise grips around the lower larger portain of the sensor
And then work the sensor from side to side to break the seal of the internal o-ring
After the seal is broken,it should pull right out...

I had to go to a junkyard to get a new one for my d16a6. All I had to do was remove the bolt and then pull upwards. It was a battle for the ages, but I eventually won. Visegrips and a strong will...

The slot on the sensor is there,intact...
Look at about 2-3 o'clock on the sensor..
I have also heard of people using a dent puller/slide hammer
if the method described does not work for you.
