legal or not?
I was considering buying a Megan header, but I'm not sure if it's street legal or not since the auction doesn't say racing header or not. Can someone clarify to me if this header will be street legal.

As long as the header you're considering duplicates the original exhaust manifold for mounting an o2 sensor (if it had one), you'll be alright. If it doesn't, you'll have to make provisions for mounting it. Most emission laws are written whereas all original emissions components must be present and operating correctly. What they're mounted to makes no difference (IE: cast manifold / header)

depends where you live in california your not allowed to use any type of racing headers...the only headers that you allowed to install in california is sports headers which really bites you in the ***
Generally, what 'blkknight619' confirms is that "sport" (street) headers have the o2 provision, while the "racing" (competition) headers do not. The sport header may not handycap you as much as you think. I've caught some posts on other (gasp) forums where many have had to rework the collectors on proported "racing headers" because of poor flow/design.
Most motorheads from the left coast will confirm the C.A.R.B. (California Air Resourses Board) has forever been a pain in the "patootie", but unfortunately it's the only game in town for street machines.

Well I live in Texas and they are not the most environmentally concerned state in the U.S., but I believe I did see a bung for an 02 sensor on the header, although it looks like it could be welded up.

You should be ok, California is the state where this would most likely be an issue but as long as you can hook up your O2 sensor you should be fine since the emissions won't be affected that much.

On the header pipes you buy there is usually a small metal plate welded to the header that will say the brand name, and usually has an "EO number" beneath that. I would expect any brand name header to have the EO number, which is just a carb exemption number. If the inspectors think its a problem they will look and see the EO number and you will be set. Of course, you could always just put the OEM heat shield back over them on inspection day.
