While its no secret Hondas are as reliable as they get, we are talking about a car that's 15+ years old. Even if it was completely babied its entire life, ***** still going to break w/age. Considering that most examples have led a very hard life, you're either going to spend a lot of time/money fixing it up or ignoring all the little things until its a complete bucket.

Without expensive bodywork, rust is a killer...especially in the quarter panels. If the car sees daily driving through the winter/salt, it gets worse quick. A good southern or west coast car typically has the least amount of rust. Mine started life in Cali and made its way to Texas where I picked it up. With the stock paint job, the only rust is a little edge on the sunroof panel and a small ding on a fender. At least it has that going for it.

Looks better then mine when I first bought it for $1500.
It didn't have full interior and I still paid that price. The only thing that was + was that the mileage was around 105k.

I would say $1500 - $1850 because the emblem and the small side protector is missing.

I bought my rex as is with body kit, zc 1.6 which i would say is a shitty motor, lowered, full exhaust, paint job and a vis hood. I paid 2900 for it! I also got a safc and a set of 15's. the car was in decent shape besides little dents but it looks good check it out![IMG][/IMG]http://www.streettrenz.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=78&pos=127

I have a 90 HF and love it. I have replaced almost everything on it due to wear or as a performance upgrade. It also has a B18 swap. You can drive the **** out of a stock HF but won't get anywhere very fast! It is not a fast car, what it does do is to go a long ways on a small ammount of gas. Economy, not performance. Unless you are going to swap, pass on the HF, look for an Si instead.
IMO

i think it a little high. offer him $1200 and see what happens. if there really aren't any around were you live you have two options. pay more for the one you do find or drive a little ways for a deal.

Keep looking, and be willing to travel a little if necessary. Good deals ARE still out there!

A quick search locally turned up this one for $2500:

http://austin.craigslist.org/car/82210927.html

I've picked up several CRXs around Austin, and the most I paid was $2500 for a *really* clean burgundy '91 DX 5-speed, one-owner, all original (except paint), no wrecks, no rust, good (newer) paint and great A/C. It needed absolutely no work on it, but I did some anyway (Si engine, hybrid transmission, Si seats & steering wheel, Integra 15" alloy wheels, a few other goodies). And that $2500 was looked on by many as too much to pay...

Here's a pic:

Last October, I picked up this '91 Si:

Again, it was a one-owner car, all original (including the paint this time, except for the front right fender), absolutely perfect interior (looks brand new), no rust, etc. It had a blown headgasket, bad axles, and a crunchy transmission. The price I paid was $1200. Just got the new engine, tranny, and axles done a couple weeks ago, and it runs perfectly. All told, I *might* have $1800 into the car right now.

So, if you're patient and willing to travel a bit for the right car, there are definitely better deals out there.

Mike
