Instead of spending money on swapping out your perfectly good engine. Just build it up and boost it.

In the long run you'd save money even though it dosent matter to you, but you'd also save time and make more power if you just boosted.

Boost

look at his post....If he is not happy with the B18C1 and wants to know what else is out there, then we as H-T'ers should let him know what other engine are out there, not tell him what we would build......If he was asking what he should build then Im sure we would all give him our idea's about it, Not flame him becuase he wants to take out a b18c1 and put in something else.....

hell if he wanted to he could go H22, not something I would do....but hey, he's asking what engine he could put in his car besides the one he has already.

is there a big enough difference between the k20a and B18C1 to justify getting rid of the b18 and swapping a k20 in? my understanding is that the k20a unit is smaller, responds better to bolt-ons and has the same redline. anymore differences?

i think your jumping to conclusions. i don't think the guy was flamming him, he was just trying to help the thread starter make a more practical, worthwhile decission. in the end though, if he wants a new engine then he should get a new engine, no one is disputing that, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't consider other options as well.

Big enough difference??? .......lets see....

K20A
8400 Redline
220HP
152Tq
Bore 86mm
Stroke 86mm
Comp Ratio 11.5:1
Displacment 1998cc - 2.0L
110hp per liter
Six speed Transmission w/ LSD

B18C1
8000 Redline
170hp
128tq
Bore 81mm
Stroke 87.2mm
Comp Ratio 10:1
Displacment 1797cc - 1.8L
94hp per liter
Five speed Transmission W/Open diff

K20A Responds very well to Bolts ons and will make over 220 Wheel Hp easy
It has a six speed with LSD

The B18C1 responds ok to bolts ons but will only make 165 Wheel Hp at best
It has a 5 speed without LSD.

Remember this is with bolts ons only......no head work or cams or internal work....just simple bolt ons.....intake, header, exhuast, and ecu with tuning.

I would take a stock K20A over a stock B18C1.

ah but would you pay for one if you already had the b18C1? in your current financial situation, as a daily driver? eh? eh?

Well lets see here......

Lets say a person wants to go with an allmotor setup....

To make the power the K makes in stock form with the b18c1, with the reliability of the k20a would go as follows....and this is without knowing how to do it your self.... rough estimates

Labor to take engine out and reinstall it when its built - $400-600
Tear down and reassemble engine - $450-750
Sleeve block - $700-1200
Pistons - $500
Rod - $300-600
Bearings - $95-250
Bottom end seals - $50
Oil pump - $110
Ported head - $850
Cams - $500-1000
Cam gears - $140
Intake manifold - $200-400
Throttle body - $320-400
Header - $450-1500
Timing belt - $55-120
Water pump - $80
Head gasket - $85-120
LSD for Transmission - $400
Flywheel streetlite - $200
Clutch - $280-400
Labor to put in LSD - $150
ECU Tuning w/ crome - $300
Conversion harness OBD2to1 - $80
OBD1 ecu - $100-200
ECU chipping - $80-100
Injectors 440cc - $300
misc gaskets - $40
misc parts budget - $100

this comes out to $7315.00 and that's all the low pricing I listed......
now this is based on an engine that will perform just like the K20A and be just as reliable....also based on someone not knowing anything about the car to do his own work.

No Im not saying boost is not an option as well.....but I don't recommend turbo to anyone that is not familiar with there own car or engine......turbo Honda's take allot of maintenance to keep up....

now if he went boosted in the same situation then I would say it would cost him about
5000.00 or so without doing any of the work himself....and this is with tuning and buying a already made kit that will bolt on.....another rough estimate

Your right though....every ones situation is different...I went built b-series because i had the parts laying around the shop, but if I had the money....I would love to go K20a ...stock engine with built B-Series HP

I would say that this thread is a load of B.S. in the first place. Anyone who has no object for $$ limitations sure would not drive an integra, and by the slight chance that he/she did, it sure as **** would not be stock.

If you are for real and money is not an object, K20R swap with boost. Take your B18c1 and put it in a CRX for a daily beater.
