Default Thanks from NASA

I can't say enough about how happy I was that people were able to use their V700s this weekend instead of their Blizzaks.

We had a great turnout of instructors, corner flagging officials and drivers. Special hats off to the boys from JMU. Gerald Irish and his crew have done a fantastic job of providing excellent and professional corner working. It was cold on Sunday and windy and they just bundled up and kept smiling.

David Teague did a GREAT job as the event announcer and he will be gracing us again a CMP. I look forward to his race play by play.

It was the first time anyone has gotten a chance to see some HC cars in a bit of a dual. I am very excited. You guys may have me converted. After rotaries and big V-8 rwd I think I might, could be kinda maybe sort of thinking about, like....a Civic with a Type R plant. Oh NO! I said it.

Though I help get these events together I'm a driver first. I was out on a few stations with a video magazine cameraman and Apex Killer getting shots of the ECHC exhibition. It was killing me not to be out there. I REALLY look forward to seeing the first ECHC comp at Carolina Motorsports Park.

We are contemplating making it a spectator event. If any of y'all are serious about coming out to watch please let Karl or Scott or me know and I'll make the proper arrangements.

Brother Speed says:

Soon enough, my brethren, many will be in the light and basking in it's red misty glow. Do not assume that one liking "show" cannot also have some "go" in them dying to get out.

Peace out, yo, my Brethren,

Chris

I have already heard lots of good stories from the weekend - unfortunately, i hate you all because i could not make it - i came down with a pretty nasty case of the flu, and being outside in the cold all weekend probably would have put me down for alot longer than the 2 weeks i had already been sick. Keep up the good work - has the march date for Lowes Motor Speedway been set yet? I'm looking forward to that now SCCA Licensing school in march at the point as well... And the NASA Autocross season starts next month too.... now if i could only figure out what i'm going to drive between now and then i'd be set.

Chris, It was really an awesome weekend, dispite my wheel studs shearing, and my wheel almost comming off, I had a blast! The practice races were awesome, just wish we had more of them, I felt that is where I learned the most.. But still great fun..

The ECHC exhibition was an absolute blast! Anybody count how many cars were out there, it was close to a full grid. Awesome time, I should have some great video footage of it, pretty much every car is on it, as I moved throughout the field..

Thanks Chris, Grumpy, Elyse, Tony, the JMU crew and everyone else for making this another awesome NASA weekend

Agreed Chris. These guys were on top of things all weekend - they certainly kept me and my students in check the couple of times we had trouble on track.

It was the first time anyone has gotten a chance to see some HC cars in a bit of a dual. I am very excited. You guys may have me converted.
HA! Now we've got it in writing. You're committed

Good idea Chris. Emailing info@honda-challenge.com gets to both me and Scott.

There were some show car guys there on Sunday. I took one of them for a ride, and when he got out of the car sure enough, he looked at me and said, "Man...maybe I need to sign up for one of these schools."

Most of all, thanks to Chris, the Politi Crew, and all the usual NASA suspects for putting on another high quality track weekend.

The one that went out with me openly admitted to street racing, so he already knew everything

We get out of the car and he says "I thought I knew how to drive until I rode with you..." 110 throught the uphill esses on street tires makes a believer out of anyone

We then went on to discuss how many track weekends he could do for the cost of his last wreckless driving ticket. Answer: At least 4, after you consider lawyer cost, court cost, and insurance hikes.

Wow... thats a really good way to rationalize that to all the street squirells... hence the reason i stopped speeding for the most part. I didnt get tickets too often, but when i did they were expensive

Silly riceboys.....

I would like to say thanks to all who made this event possible. I had a great time & learned a lot!

I would also like to thank Elyse esp. since she put up w/ my "pest"-iness all day Sat & finally got me settled in.

Also Karl.... those brake pads worked great! & Scott for giving Matt, Karl, & I a ride in the #22 car & smacking Matt's head w/ the hatch

Another thanks goes out to those guys cornerworking on the back straight. They helped me gain 2 more mph going uphill by helping me push my car w/ their hands. I had a top speed of 82 mph going uphill thanks to those guys.

Great wkend & I hope to see some more NASA action soon.

defiantely have to give my thanks to NASA for a truely exciting experience. This was my first event with NASA and I will gaurantee there will be many in the future. Even though things got behind it was 95% organized and that is much better than most events I have previously experienced.

Chrius especially thanks, I was the UPS guy from Carlisle that you rode with when my real instructor went with the wrong guy. Thanks alot for not making me miss any track time and for squeezing me into the evnt in the first place.

I WILL BE BACK!!!!!!

Great weekend/event/weather!
Thanks to the workers!
Thanks for the food/refreshments Saturday night.
Question... were non-alcoholic beverages available?

'Wanted' "Trophy Men"... for the female racers...

I hope that quote was directed to the "car show" participants. I have a Yellow Acura... and would hate to be considered a member of the "ricies" group.

Boy, you ITR guys can be touchy ...

I'd bet great sums of money that he was referring to the folks that parked in "formation" near the tech shed.

To those who attended the NASA party Sat night -

There were supposed to be nonalcoholic drinks available at the party, but the caterers forgot until most of the food was gone. I apologize that I didn't catch the error earlier. Sorry about that.

Those two kegs went dry pretty quick too!

And for all you girl racers out there, we will work on getting some trophy boys......................We girls need some eye candy too!

This weekend made my 30th open track event and this was by far the best weekend I have ever had, PERIOD.
It was good to finally get together with some of you to put a face with the names.

Here is my favorite story of all time and it happend this weekend. I am coming out of Oaktree and Corey is running in my group to get the car sorted, he is right behind me, I give him the point by. He gets along side me half way down the straight, I'm doing like 110mph and he engages the clutch and starts reving on me. I look over and he takes off. I laughed about it for the rest of the lap. I wish some one had pic's of that happening, I would use them in the article I am doing on him.

David Teague did a GREAT job as the event announcer and he will be gracing us again a CMP. I look forward to his race play by play.
Chris thanks for all the words of encouragement I was having a great time, I had a great view in the Timing and scoring shed and with the wireless mic I could wander around and watch people come throght nascar and left hook, which was very interesting in the valentine 200 qualifying and racing. I finnaly got my first on track experince on sunday morning (thanks Diane!). Being in a car for a lap cerintally seemed way shorter that one lap did inside of the Timing and Scoring Shed.

Thanks!

I also had a great time. NASA knows how to put on a show

My only problem was the drinks at the party (since I don't drink alcohol) and was biffed at why the caterer's told me "You have to buy your drinks downstairs" (in a rude tone).

Other problem is my instructor forgot to sign me off and I went to look for him and he left already.

Haha that's funny until one realizes they're not Chris' words.

just remember one thing.............. the Accord ownz joo!

Thanks to everyone.........
it seems like each event I go to I have more and more fun.
My highlights:
1: ECHC Exhibition- I can say I was on Roger Foo's Speedvision WC Civic's *** for a lap, who cares if it was the pace lap
2: being the one man pit crew for Payton Wilson- a plan devised the evening before where he would flash his lights in Nascar bend and i would meet him at the gas pumps for refueling, needless to say he one his class
3: Competition School practice starts- this is a great view of what we have in store for the season, like Corey, Starnes, and Jack diving into one with a spinning stock car in front of them
4: spinning coming into Hog-Pen(turn 17)- you think you would be scared but I was so well prepared by these schools I reacted instantly with both feet in and safely returned to track, I just have to remember "No Trail Braking in 17"
5: Tony Politi taking one of the ricies car out on the track and bringing it back with brakes smoking
6: Knowing I get to do it all over again the next weekend

Yes I had fun smoking the ricie's brakes and telling him that he needed shocks to go with his bump stops. Thanks to all who came out and had a good time. I finally replaced my calipers about 1 this afternoon and had a sleepy ride home.
I think I was the most excited about the HC I was jumping around and had to have my sis drive the pace car the for next session. Thank you guys for the excitement have'nt seen good racing like that in a while.

He's not kidding. I was hooking up my trailer and I heard Tony laughing and yelling over by Corey's pit. He was more excited than the guys coming off the track.
So... that '89 ZC got a cage in it yet Tony?
C'mon, you know you want to...

Hey, don't make fun of that! I've turned a 2:21 sitting on my bumpstops.

I also want to add my thanks for having everyone out for the weekend. I LOVED the comp school practice races. I am so excited about the HC challenge that I can't wait to see what happens at CMP.

I just want to know who all was protecting my camper - besides Jason and Victor? I didn't want to seem to chummy - who wants a registrar poking her nose into other people's business??
