Default Ticking Problems

I just got my B16 put in my car and the cat wouldn't reach to the header, so I had to run open header until I got the cat put on. Well I got the cat put back on for $20, then 2 days later, my cat goes bad, I put a new high flow one on and it cost $100. 2 days later sounds like there was a rock in the exhaust. $10 to fix, next day rattiling noise, there was a pipe inside a pipe, yea I know, another $25 to fix. Had to get a alignment $65, next day tie rod broke....Yesterday I take it for a oil change, after I got the car back it starts ticking. Well today when I went to go drive the car, I went to put it in reverse and notice the shifter was messed up. It had so much play I could rotate it in circles, well the pin from the shift linkage broke off. This is my story all for one week, I hope it gets better from now on.

P.S. The ticking noise is because I need a valve adjustment

Ok well got the car back today, and the ticking noise was getting worse. Well I found out I had an exhuast leak and fixed it, still a problem. Then I said well if it happened right after the oil change, lets change the oil again. Change the oil and added Lucas Synthetic stabilzers and the ticking got worse. Did a valve adjustment, and still more ticking. We think it might be a fuel injector now...lets hope

Well got the car back, fixed the overheating and the exhuast leak. We found out that it wasn't the injectors, they think it is the rocker arms.

sounds like a problem i had. If it wasn't one thing it was another. Now my car is running tip top...I don't wanna speak to soon though... haha. But good luck with everything hope it goes good.

If it's not your rocker arms take a look at your water pump. They go bad on b16s really quick

it sounds like there is a rock somewhere, but tonight we are taking off the valve cover to see if there is any visable damage

I would find a new shop......or DIY. Most of those problems seem to stem from work they did.

Honestly, do you regret swapping the SOHC out after the problems you've had with the B? Not stirring trouble, just asking for your opinion. I think since its 1 of your first swaps, there's bound to be some .. obsticles to overcome. Just ride it out, it'll be worth it in the end.

Thx guys, I am just tired of spending all this money to fix it, and I love the power of the car.

We think it might be a bent valve. If so we need to send out my head to get it fixed...another $400 and we don't even know if that is the problem

I just came back and the ticking got louder and louder. We took off the valve cover and cams and everything looks good, oil clean, no signs of wear. He used a sylacope something like that to try to hear were the sound was coming from, and it didn't really help. If I need to get my head redone it will cost around $500, I just got the DAMN MOTOR!!!. I called HMotorsOnline and they said that the car runs so they won't cover it. I also read someone who had the same problem change his head and it still ticked. I don't want to spend $500 and there will still be a problem.

It will tick for about 20 seconds straight and then not tick for like 15 seconds. I don't think it is a rocker arm or a bent valve becuase 15 seconds is too long of a period apart for it not to tick. So he told me wait till it gets worse and then maybe we might find the problem. He also said since they shipped this motor from Japan that it could of gunk in it and the oil changed released the gunk. Since I just did a oil change and it has only been 80 miles it might get better.........lets hope
