ok so the machine shop calls me up and tells me that according to specs i have a b16 crank and rods in my b18a ls block. Im building a ls/vtec with pr-3 pistons. Is it possible to run a b16 crank and rods with pr-3 pistons in my setup?

B18a block(fresh hone)
Pr3 pistons + new rings
Itr oil pump
gsr water pump
gsr timing belt
gsr belt tensioner
arp rod bolts
arp head studs
acl main, rod, and thrust bearings
Bored .20 over + fresh hone
Balance & micropolish crank

B16a sir1 head(stock)
B16 ls1 cable tranny with 6 puck

 

I would assume you are talking about b16b crank and rods. And in that case yes, yes it is possible. I just dont know why you would, you would be seriously destroking your ls block, and no longer have an ls/vtec you would have a 1.6l

Yes thats true but what if i get the machine shop to lengthen my rods? would that help at all. When the engine was in the car it ran great and had power just like a regular ls.

 

where did you get the original ls bottom end from?? because it sounds like the machine shop is smokin crack

 

The ls bottoem end came out of my 93 integra, but im like the 3rd owner and this engine has been rebuilt before. And the guy at the machine shop knows what hes doing trust me.

 

also this block had a p72 oil pan on it.........

 

How far down from the top of the block are the pistons at top dead center?

 

Well at the moment its not put together, but i remember that when i took it aprt the pistons were fluch with the top of the block. So if i did have b16 cran and rods in this b18 wouldnt the pistons be sitting lower than the yop of the block?

 

I think the machine shop is just confused, ima call them tomorrow and see if it says pr-3 or pr-4 on the rods.
