i am planning on replacing my head gasket on a 90' integra ls and when i went to look at the head bolts i wasnt sure if i had to take out the cam shafts in order for the head bolts to come out, when you look at the bolts they don't look like they'll be able to clear the camshaft. also i was wondering if i had to drain the block and how i could do that.

yeah they have to come out, dont forget to loosen the tensioner, u might want to get a helms manual or something to guide u, there's an order to take them out and put them in. and u dont have to drain the block to do so, but i would recommend draining most of the coolant from ur radiator, or ur gonna have quite a bit of a puddle when ur done

 

Drain the coolant and oil...

And yes, you must take the cams out in order to access the head bolts.

Oh, and you can drain your block of coolant by removing the plug in the front of the block. It's a big round plug, kinda hard to describe. But if you remove it the coolant will drain from the coolant jacket and you won't get coolant all over your pistons when you take the head off.
