which oil viscosity to run????
i have a 99 civic si em1 and i was wondering what oil viscosity weight to run. i live in the high desert of california where it is easily well over 100 degrees everyday of the summer. there is hardly any humidity and i was wondering what the honda-tech members think. i am running castrol fully synthetic 15w-40 in it right now. i have run 5w-30 and 10w-30 but it is so thin that my block will just burn it up. i have perfect compression and there are no oil leaks. let me know what you guys think.

and there is no way "your block is burning up 5w-30"</TD></TR></TABLE>LOL turbo diesel, but at over 100° he could be burning through the 5w-30. I would say 10w-30 or higher is best. I live in the midwest and I run Royal Purple 10w-30 all year and sometimes 10w-40 when I will be doing more racing in the summer. I wouldn't go much higher than the 15w-40 since at that point you could be adding drag to the rotating masses of the engine.
