My last car had a turbo D16Y8, it was fun. I think I had more fun actually turboing it than driving it... I don't know why. I did get to lay the smackdown on a 5.0 though...
Bottom line when going turbo:
CHEAP | RELIABLE | FAST
^^ You can't have all three so choose you're two wisely.

I was running a Garrett GT25R on my Y8... kept my A/C and P/S. FMIC, Hondata S200B, DSM 450's... Y8 was stock other than ARP headstuds and a GE blockguard. I put down a conservative 204whp and 181wtq after tuning.
The Greddy kit would probably be perfect for what you want it for. My opinion may be somewhat biased for the engine/fuel management, but you do whatever your research, budget and skill level will allow you to do. I personally wanted it to be reliable, so I went with the S200b and had it professionally tuned. I probably could have tuned it myself, but I couldn't risk blowing the engine in my daily driver. Good luck and happy boosting!
PS check out the Forced Induction forum on this board, lots of juicy information in there!

the greddy kit price is a little high for my car if i buy it new what i am probably going to do is hit the wrecking yard and start collecting parts that are still in good conditions and just keep them in the garage till i get the snail and then set it up
i just got to see what cars i should try to spot out thier to see what turbo fits mine becouse i dont want to get a big blower that my engine can't blow a ball bearing turbo would be nice. also probably hard to find
greddy kit..
HON CIVIC EX 1996-00 TD04H-19T cast manif. w/ e-manage & 310cc inj. 11550050 $2,599.00

on your budget i would suggest piecing together a junkyard kit. some guys have put one together for less than $850, but i dont think they were the most reliable out there. the key is a good tune. best of luck
yeah thats what i started to think when i saw the pricing on those kits since i am going to the wrecking yard i hope you all dont mind giving me some info on what
cars i should look for that might have a turbo that wouldrun smooth with my engine
size of turbo
what parts i should look for
example : * injectors
* intercooler pipping
* Downpipe "mabe i have to customize it"

look for eclipses: blue top 450cc injectors, sidemount intercooler, turbo, and BOV (get the 1st gen one its metal and sounds better i think). you could always look at any car that was equipped with a stock turbo as well, saab, volvo, ford, chrysler, etc.
yeah, find a DSM (eclipse, talon or lazer) with the turbo engine. See if you can just buy the whole car for cheap (<$500) instead of individual turbo things. Save you some cash in the end I think.
i dont remember if you got your turbo from another car or bought it wich is it?
i just want to get the right size that my engine can spool really touchie pedle is what i want.
I saw a turbo from a Eclipse at the junk yard I stared to plan my project . I want to build a turbo kit from cheap, used and easy to find parts. The BOV ,down pipe.. , manifold and wastegate ect. the turbo will problably be out of a eclipse or a sabb 900.. Intercooler off a Talon or eclipse (if I find it at the juk yard). the intercooler pipping will be the most expensive thing due to the custom job.
My plan is to run about 9-10 pounds on my car. is a 98 civic coupe ex with a d16y8 on it and a couple of bolt-ons. I just want to know, is it a good idea or not? I mean, it will be fun and a good way to get some more power for cheap. but I dont know if theres a lot more involved.
what do you guys think? should I go for it?... any links related to this please let me know.. anybody who tried before, who got any sugestion.. let it all aout right here.

My turbo (GT25R) was just in a kit made for the Z6/Y8. I didn't have the time, patience or the right tools to do a custom job. Sure, it costs a bit more to go that route, but it's a lot less hassle. My $.02.
The T-25 turbo is a good size for the 1.6. I saw full 9psi at 3800rpms, so the spool up was quick, although it was a dual ball bearing turbo...

Being that he lives in Texas, I doubt he wants to go through the trouble of getting a turbo imported or buying a turbo from japan. Would be much easier to find a DSM in the junkyard with one.
I got the Edelbrock turbo kit on my 00 ex. Didn't get it on the dyno yet, but i ran a mid 14 in street trim when I didn't know how to launch my car. The things that got me sold about the kit was the gt28 turbo, the 8-injector setup, and the ecu that controls the fuel and retards the timing. Smoked a few guys on the street, including a 99 ex w/ a t3@12psi, a '02 ex@10psi, an SR20 sentra w/ a 80-shot, and a 98 ek w/ b18c5 swap. Going to the test and tune on Saturday, hopefully get some better times. The only drawback about this kit is that it costs about 3k even with my discount. Good luck man!
I'm currently looking to buy a civic, decided with a D series engine I guess. I'm selling my DSMs because I need something a tad more reliable and with better gas mileage.
Can anyone comment on gas mileage on the highway for a turbod D series? I know I'm gunna miss power of my dsm turbo so in time I may put one on the civic I get. The turbo Eagle talon I have gets 26MPG highway.

stock fuel mileage on my D was 30-33 MPG, turboed im now 26 MPG with some fun boosting.....i gotta re-enable open loop on my rom so my off boost AFR's are better.......probably get closer to 28-29 MPG when i do this....
I put a 14B on my D and it runs great (i can definately destroy an EF civic with swapped B16A with shitty tune, boost leaks, leaky wastegate....not running right)...i know some guys making 220+ HP and 200+ torque so im looking forward to tuning and making this car much faster than it currently is....
