Default Timing Belt Problem....

Ok guys my 98 LS finally died...suspect the timing belt for the following reason the rotor in the distributor does not spin...and everything else checks out....my question is that when my car was puttering sounding like it was gonna stop and then finally did...is that bad for my car I heard that when some timing belts break that the pistons hit the valves and mess the head up...is this the case here...??? please respond this just happened an hour or two ago and I wanna know if I might be looking at head damage...thanks...

broken timing belt usually means breakage. Not all the time. The only way, and the absolute only way, to asses the damage is to start taking thing apart.

any idea on how much that would cost if the head might be busted...? if not just the timing belt would have to be replaced....
